Inhalation and exhalation Submitted to – Dr A bha Mishra Submitted by – Raghvendra Niranjan
Respiration The process in the organism in which complex organic matter decompose in the presence or absence oxygen which result in the formation of carbon dioxide and water or simple organic matter and carbon dioxide and release of energy ,called respiration. In this process, oxidation of food substances occurs inside the mitocondria
Respiration type Anaerobic respiration Aerobic respiration Aerobic respiration divide into following 1-External respiration (breathing) 2-internal respiration (cellular respiration)
Breathing (external respiration) The process in which oxygen is taken into the body and carbon dioxide is forced out from the body . Breathing is divided into following 1-inspiration or inhalation (oxygen inhaled) 2- expiration or exhalation (carbon dioxide released )
Inhalation or inspiration external intercostal muscle contract . Ribs pulled upward and outward . Diaphragm contract. Thoracic cavity increases ,lungs expand . Air pressure inside the lung decreases. To balance the air pressure ,air rushes into the lungs through air passage. This process needs energy for muscle contraction This process does not reqiure energy .
Inspiration and expiration
Exhalation or expiration Internal intercostal muscle contract Ribs pulled back their normal position Diaphragm relax Thoracic cavity decreases , lung contract Air pressure inside the lung increase Equilize the air is expelled out from lungs through respiratory tract This process does not require energy Thanks
