National Means-Cum–Merit scholarship scheme (NMMS) National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMS)Launched in 2008, this scheme provides financial assistance to students from economically and socially disadvantaged groups who excel in their studies. The scholarship is awarded to students studying in classes 8 and 9 and it aims to encourage students to continue their education and improve their academic performance.
Benefits NMMS scholarship aims to motivate bright and disadvantaged students to complete their higher and higher secondary level of education. Under this scheme 1,00,000 fresh scholarships at rs . 12,000 per annum (1,000 per month) are awarded to meritorious students every year at class IX level, which can be continued upto 12 th standard.
National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) National Talent Search Examination (NTSE)This scheme, launched in 1963, aims to identify and nurture talent among students in the country. The scheme conducts an examination for students studying in class 10 and awards scholarships to students who perform well in the examination.
Benefits The primary objective of conducting NTSE is to award scholarships to potential candidates who are aspiring to pursue higher education in Science or Social Studies stream. An NTSE scholar gets a monthly scholarship of Rs 1250 for pursuing science, social science, humanities, languages, fine arts, commerce, or vocational studies in classes XI and XII. The scholarship amount is Rs 2000 for undergraduate courses. Some colleges in India have exclusively reserved seats for NTSE scholars.
Eklavya Model Residential schools Eklavya Model Residential Schools scheme aims to provide quality education to Scheduled Tribe (ST) children living in remote and far-flung areas. The scheme provides for the establishment of Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) in each block with a substantial ST population and at least 20,000 tribal persons.
Benefits Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS)EMRS started in the year 1997-98 to impart quality education to ST children in remote areas in order to enable them to avail of opportunities in high and professional educational courses and get employment in various sectors.
Padhe Bharat Badhe Bharat (PBBB) Padhe Bharat Badhe Bharat (PBBB)Launched in 2018, this scheme aims to improve the reading, writing, and arithmetic skills of students in classes 3 to 5. The scheme focuses on providing training to teachers, developing reading materials, and creating a culture of reading in schools.
Benefits It ensures quality education in the foundational years of schooling. It provides various facilities such as reading material for children, an ideal environment full of books and timely distribution of reading material. The Padhe Bharat Badhe Bharat programme also has an appraisal system and mentoring of new teachers.
Integrated Education for Disabled Children (IEDC) Integrated Education for Disabled Children (IEDC)Launched in 1974, this scheme aims to provide education to children with disabilities. The scheme provides for the construction of special schools, additional classrooms, toilets, and drinking water facilities, as well as the appointment of additional teachers and special educators.
Benefits The Integrated Education for Disabled Children (IEDC) scheme launched in 1974 aims to integrate disabled children into normal school systems. The National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation provides loans for self-employment, entrepreneurship, education, and assistive devices.
Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan (RAA) Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan (RAA)Launched in 2015, this scheme aims to promote science and mathematics education in schools. The scheme provides for the development of science and mathematics laboratories in schools, as well as the appointment of additional teachers for science and mathematics.
