Integers: Whole Numbers and Beyond!

What are Whole Numbers? Whole numbers are the counting numbers we use every day. We use them to count objects: 1 apple, 2 apples, 3 apples, and so on. Whole numbers are always positive (0, 1, 2, 3...)

Introducing Integers Integers include whole numbers, but they also go beyond! Integers include negative numbers. We use negative numbers to represent temperatures below zero, depths below sea level, or scores in a game.

Integer Challenge! Let's test your integer knowledge! On a piece of paper, write down the following numbers: 5, -2, 3, -7

Fun with Integers: Real-World Examples! Integers help us in many real-world situations! We use them to show above sea level (positive integers) and below sea level (negative integers). We can also use them for bank account balances (positive for deposits, negative for withdrawals).

Treasures to Share! (Addition) Addition helps us combine things, like sharing our treasure equally among the crew ( + ) We add positive integers to find a bigger treasure (+5 + 3 = 8) We can even add negative integers to see how much treasure we've lost (-2 - 4 = -6 )

Lost at Sea!( substraction ) Subtraction helps us find the difference between things, like how many supplies we have left after a storm (- ) We subtract positive integers to see what's remaining (10 - 3 = 7) We can subtract negative integers to see how much better off we are ( -5 + 2 = -3)

Firing the Cannons! Multiplication is a shortcut for adding the same number multiple times, like firing the cannons several times ( x ) We multiply positive integers to see the total number of things after repeating something (3 x 4 = 12 cannons fired) We can even multiply negative integers to see a repeated loss (-2 x 3 = -6 supplies lost)

Sharing the Loot! Division helps us split things equally, like sharing our loot among the crew ( รท ) We divide positive integers to see how much each person gets (12/4) =3
