INTRODUCTION IMNCI is also called integrated management of neonatal and childhood illness. IMNCI strategy was developed in mid 1990. It concept was developed by WHO and UNICEF as a new strategy. It is working to reduce the under five morbidy and mortality in the developing country. It is curative preventive and promotive strategy aimed at reducing the death and contribute to improve growth and nurtrition of under five children
During the third week of novemet 2014 a series of neonatal deaths usually higher than expected were reported to have taken place in the dharamputi government district Hospital tamilnadu . The health department looked at the performance of ICDS the primary health centre CHC. Improvements in the case-management skills of health staff through the use of locally adapted guidelines Improvements in the overall health system for effective management of childhood illness.
Definition According to “ Neelam Kumari ” IMCI is an integrated approach to child health that focuses on the well-being of the whole child. IMCI aims to reduce death, illness and disability, and to promote improved growth and development among children under five years of age. IMCI includes both preventive and curative elements that are implemented by families and communities as well as by health facilities . According to “ Veerbhadra ” IMNCI is also called Integrated management of neonatal and childhood illness. It is a process to prevention of infection or disease and any abnormality of neonatal or child is called IMNCI.
What is IMNCI ?
IMCI is an integrated approach to child health that focuses on the well-being of the whole child. IMCI aims to reduce death, illness and disability, and to promote improved growth and development among children under five years of age. IMCI includes both preventive and curative elements that are implemented by families and communities as well as by health facilities.
Major Component of the IMNCI
1. Improvement of Family and Community The IMNCI is help to improve the quality of family life and & improve the community area. It is also help to improvement of health of child in family.
2.Improving health providers’ skills Improving health providers’ skills mostly refers to clinical and communication skills and covers both pre-service education and in-service training, public and private sector.
3.Improving health systems Improving health systems to deliver IMCI concerns policy, planning and management, financing, organization of work and distribution of tasks at health facilities, human resources, availability of drugs and supplies, referral, monitoring and health information system, supervision, evaluation and research
4.Provide All health Facilities in Pediatric Population To provide healthy nutrition to maintain child growth and development or Prevention of infection.
5.To Improve Nutrition in Child Health Care Equitable distribution of health care facilities and maximum reach out to all paediatric population.

Principles of Imnci Principles of integrated care depending on a child’s age various clinical sign and symptom’s differ in their degree of reliability and diagnostic value and importance. IMNCI clinical guidelines focus on neonates infants as well as children upto 5 year of age. Children below 5 year of age all should be examined for condition which indicates immediate referral of hospitalization.
