Interpreting the brief B2 Creative Industry Response

The Brief Target Audience This project aims to engage the young people in the local talent and make them more enthusiastic about the place they live in, Sunderland. Age – 16–25-year-olds Psychographic – Explorers, Succeeders, Aspirers Gender – Male, Female, Other. Social Grade – E and D The deadline is 24 th April 2024. The aim is to create a short film or documentary anywhere from 10-20 mins or to create print media in the range of 5 different pieces.

The Brief - Constraints Commercial Context – To show the public the talent that is present in Sunderland, and to show the reality of what Sunderland is really like, underneath its reputation in other media. I will have around a month from the first day of shooting until deadline day. Budget & Scope - £0 - The scope will be restricted to the locations inside Sunderland; using a Sunderland cast. I will be free to show Sunderland in any tone I choose. I am aiming for a short film format. It will be uploaded to YouTube for easy sharing and access. Technical Materials – Tripod, Dolly, Digital Camera

The Brief – Audience Constraints Due to the audience mostly being teenagers and young adults, (16-25) I will have to adapt my project to this demographic. There will be some problems that come with this, as this is a hard audience to please. One of the main problems will be the audience’s engagement in the project, it is a difficult task to make a short film that instantly retains attention and provides enough context for the audience to effectively engage in the content shown to them. This problem is emphasized by the typically short attention span of this audience demographic.

The Brief – Audience Constraints Another constraint with this audience, is the diverse tastes and interests of the audience. Some of them may be interested in an experimental and mind-provoking film and some may be more interested in a straightforward and to-the-point way of storytelling. To overcome this, I need to discover a balance between two sides of the audience which will be quite a challenge. With it being a short film, I am constrained to only shooting what is necessary to the story-telling of the film. Every scene and piece of dialogue must be vital in moving the story forward or the audience will simply lose interest in it. I will do just this, and make sure that every scene and every line of dialogue matters to the goal of the film. Despite the audience being made for a teenage audience, I will try to portray the characters as adults. This is because I need to avoid stereotypical cliches which may turn off the audience that I am designing the project around, this is very important. I will avoid this, but to do so I must also ensure that the film remains relatable.

The Brief Purpose and Function The purpose of this short film is to be an entertaining piece to the age group that I am aiming for. However, the main purpose of this film is to also be informative and show the audience what Sunderland can be like from a street level. Understanding Audience The demographic of my audience will be an audience that has just reached working age. Usually, this demographic will demand a more realistic and grounded. I will need to represent this in my work.
