1. MEANING OF EXTENSION EDUCATION The word “ Extension ” is derived from the Latin base, ‘ tensio ’ sense stretching and ‘ ex ’ sense out . Extension education means that manner of education which is stretched out into the villages and farms beyond the limits of the schools and colleges to which the analogical type of education is generically confined. The extension word was used first time in USA. In other word , the word ‘Extension’ used in this theme designate an out – of – school system of lesson. And the term extension is commonly to understand and “ to extend” the new ideas, practices .

2. DEFINITIONS OF EXTENSION EDUCATION Extension education is an applied science consisting of content derived from research, accumulated field experiences and relevant principles drawn from the behavioral science synthesized with useful technology into a body of philosophy, principles of out of school education for adults and youths( J.P.Leagans ,in 1961 ) Extension work is an out of school system of education in which adult and young people, which provides service and education designed to meet the people . Its fundamental objective is the development of the people (Kelsey and and Harne , 1963 ) Extension is a programme and a process of helping village people to help themselves, increase their production and to raise their general standard of living ( D.Ensminger , 1961). Extension education is defined as an educational process to provide knowledge to the rural people about the improved practices in a convincing manner and help them to take decision within their specific local conditions (O.P. Dahama , 1973).

3. SCOPE OF EXTENSION EDUCATION Extension education is a science which deals with the innovation (any creation), diffusion and application of awareness , knowledge and designed to bring about planned change in the behavior complex of people , with a view to help them live better by learning the ways of improving their professions , firms and institutes The different logics may be defined as: Extension service -A union , an institute and or a programme for agricultural development and rural prosperity which employs the extension process as a means of programme implementation. Extension process- T he extension process is that of functioning with rural people through out of school education ,along those lines of their up to date interests and necessities are closely related to earning a livelihood . Extension job – through the educational and services outlook rural people are stimulated to make change that results in more resourceful produce and marketing of farm products , more convenient homes , better health , and more satisfying family and society.

4. IMPORTANCE OF AGRICULTURE EXTENSION Increasing the efficiency in agricultural production. Increasing the efficiency in marketing, distribution and utilization of agricultural inputs and outputs. Conservation development and use of natural resources. Appropriate management on the farm and at home. Healthier family living . Youth lifting. Leadership development. Community development. Improving Public affairs for all round development.

5. OBJECTIVE OF EXTENSION EDUCATION To provide the farmers practical understanding( knowledge) and help that will enable him to farm more efficiently and multiply his earnings. To assist in planning and implementing the family and village project for increasing farm produce in various occupations. To provide facilities for well family living. To promote better social, natural, recreational, mental, intellectual and spiritual life among the people. To train rural people youth for advance works.
