INTRODUCTION TO SURFACE PREPARATION AND PAINTING
Why prepare a surface? To remove contaminants and provide a surface to which the paint will readily adhere. This will effectively provide a longer service life from the coating. Two factors for consideration Degree Of Cleanliness. Degree of roughness or surface profile. Surface Preparation
Surface not on type material. Types of contaminants. Visible and non-visible contaminants Pre-cleaning before preparation when required Important to know before preparation ex surface condition, welding defect, lamination, edges 3. The degree/grade/standard/stages of the cleaning is mainly depends on time spent on area. Ex: Area of inspection 4. Standard cover for cleanliness ISO SSPC PTS 15.20.03 Degree Of Cleanliness .
