Engineering Graphics - (BT-105) SISTec -R Bhopal 2 INTRODUCTION TO ENGINEERING GRAPHICS Content What is Engineering Graphics Role and Application of Engineering Graphics Drawing Instruments Lines and Types of Lines

Engineering Graphics - (BT-105) SISTec -R Bhopal 3 The art of graphical representation of any object or any idea on a plain paper is called Drawing. What is Drawing ?

Engineering Graphics - (BT-105) SISTec-R Bhopal 4 Types of Drawings Artistic Sketches (conceptual) Diagrams ( design & technical) Drawings (technical/engineering) Diagram (design plan) All Drawings Technical Diagram ( technical ) simulated perspective Oblique projection Isometric projection Multi view orthographic

The art of representation of an object by the artist by his imagination or by keeping the object before him. e.g. paintings, cinema posters, advertisement boards, etc. Artistic Drawing 5 Engineering Graphics - (BT-105) SISTec -R Bhopal

What is an Engineering Drawing ? “An Engineering Drawing is a technical (not artistic) drawing which clearly defines and communicates about engineering parts/items to interested ones. Engineering Graphics - (BT-105) SISTec -R Bhopal 6 Engineering Drawing is one of the basic course to study for all engineering discipline.

Engineering Graphics - (BT-105) SISTec-R Bhopal 7 Difference between Artistic & Engineering Drawing

Engineering Graphics - (BT-105) SISTec -R Bhopal 8 ENGINEERING GRAPHICS – A Language of Engineers Universal Graphical Language for Communication between Engineers House Design done by Architect Engineer House Construction done by Civil Engineers

Quality of drawing is also dependent on instruments used to draw particular drawing. For example, if your compass is loose then you might not get exact radius of circle that you want to draw as per in data. . DRAWING INSTRUMENTS Following is the list of drawing instruments that required making engineering drawings on paper with perfection

Engineering Graphics - (BT-105) SISTec -R Bhopal 14 Layout of Drawing Sheet Title Block (Sample)

Engineering Graphics - (BT-105) SISTec -R Bhopal 15 Line Thickness: Thickness varied according to the use of pen or pencil and the size & type of the drawing. For pencil, the lines can be divided into two line-groups: Line-group (mm)   Thickness  Lines 0.2 Medium Out lines, dotted lines, cutting plane lines 0.1 Thin Centre lines, section lines, dimension lines, extension lines, construction lines, leader lines, short-break lines and long-break lines. LINE Engineering Drawing is the game of line . Different types of lines are used to describe various parts of the object.

Engineering Graphics - (BT-105) SISTec-R Bhopal 18 Lettering Writing of titles, dimensions, notes and other important particulars on a drawing is called lettering. It is an important part of a drawing. Lettering The writing of alphabets and numerals such as A, B, C, D…………………….Z and 1, 2, 3……………9, 0 respectively is called Lettering.

Engineering Graphics - (BT-105) SISTec-R Bhopal 19 Classification Of Lettering The lettering, in general, is classified in two categories :- Gothic Lettering Roman Lettering. Gothic Lettering Lettering having all the alphabets or numerals of uniform thickness is called  Gothic Lettering . Vertical Gothic Lettering Italic or Inclined Gothic Lettering. Single Stroke Vertical Gothic Lettering These are vertical letter having thickness of each line of alphabet or numerals etc. Same as the single stroke of a pencil . Since Stroke means that the letter is written with one or more stems or curves and each made with single stroke.
