“The Sound Structure of English” teaches students about English phonological components. The focus is on phonemes , allophones , and their arrangement to accurately pronounce English words. Students will also learn about assimilation, elision, and stress patterns in English. Additionally , this course teaches students how to assess and transcribe English speech using the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). Students will improve their phonological skills , evaluate, and explain English sound patterns, and appreciate the differences across languages.
