INTRODUCTION gas leakage is a very dangerous household problem and is not detected by humans until the gas is excessively spread in the entire room/house. It may go unnoticed many a times when no one is in the house This has lead to severe blasts and major fire accidents This device is used to prevent these kind of accidents which indicates the gas levels and if the concentration of the gas(LPG) increases it alerts you dy sending a message to your mobile phone Although there is quite less innovation in this project the main goal is to make a cheaper/affordable version of it.
The average price of good quality gas detectors vary from RS.2000-RS.4000. And mostly these detectors in market are only buzzer based Which may not be useful all the time therefore we are making a IOT version of it. Therefore the objective is to build a cheap but efficient and effective gas leakage detector. OBJEVTIVE

ABOUT THE SENSOR MQ5 gas sensor module is used for gas leakage detection It is suitable of detecting ,LPG, ,CO and alcohol Due to its high sensitivity measurements can be taken as soon as possible Operating voltage is 5V Detection range 200ppm to 1000ppm Sensing resistance 60Ω maximum and 10 Ω minimum
WORKING PRINCIPLE The working principle behind the MQ-5 gas sensor is as follows: The sensor has a sensitive filament made of SnO2(tin dioxide). When a combustible gas such as LPG is introduced, the filament's conductivity rises, and the amount of change in it's conductance/resistance can be used to indicate the equivalent gas concentration.
WORKING OF THE DEVICE The device is a combination of both the controller and sensor connected together The sensor moniters the gas levels in its ambience and converts the read value from an analog to digital signal Now this digital signal is represented in form of ppm in the scale between 200-1000ppm As stated before the change in value is due to the change in the resistance. the levels are continuously monitored and the cutoff value is 200ppm Above the threshold value the sensor sends a signal to the controller saying that there may be a gas leak
WORKING OF THE DEVICE cont.…. If the gas levels increases more the control block is activated This block consist of a servo motor programmed in such a way that it rotates and turns the switch off The enabled control block now turns off the regulator hence turning off the gas flow from the LPG cylinder Controller after receiving the message from the sensor now enables the buzzer alerting the environment. Parallelly another instruction is executed which sends the owner/user alerts in his mobile phone . In this way this device can efficiently control accidents .
ADVANTAGES Ensures safety from any corner of the world. Low power consumption. High sensitivity to LPG gas Cost efficient Less complex circuit and less failure.
DISADVANTAGES Constant power is needed As it is an analog sensor its sensitivity varies with physical factors sometimes. Fabrication of the device is difficult due to small components.
CONCLUSION The proposed automatic gas leakage detector, which is based on sensors, is an economical, efficient, and user-friendly system that prioritizes individuals’ safety while simultaneously preventing gas wastage and contributing to the economy. Despite its simplicity, the system can be enhanced to incorporate more sophisticated features, further improving its reliability and safety. The market for smart gas sensors has significantly expanded, and the growing demand for workplace safety is expected to drive market growth in the near future. In conclusion, this system has substantial potential to make a positive impact on both society and the economy.
