What is Internet of Things? The Internet of Things ( IoT ) describes the network of physical objects—“things”—that are embedded with sensors, software, and other technologies for the purpose of connecting and exchanging data with other devices and systems over the internet. These devices range from ordinary household objects to sophisticated industrial tools. With more than 7 billion connected IoT devices today, experts are expecting this number to grow to 10 billion by 2020 and 22 billion by 2025. 3 IOT – INTERNET OF THINS 10.01.2023

How IOT works ? Mainly IOT is divided into 4 steps STEP 1 Sensors/Devices STEP 2 Connectivity STEP 3 Data Processing STEP 4 User Interface 4 IOT – INTERNET OF THINS 10.01.2023

Sensors / Devices A sensor is a device that produces an output signal for the purpose of sensing a physical phenomenon. In the broadest definition, a sensor is a device, module, machine, or subsystem that detects events or changes in its environment and sends the information to other electronics, frequently a computer processor. Types of Sensors : Active and Passive Contact and Non-Contact Absolute and relative Sensors Analog and Digital Miscellaneous 5 IOT – INTERNET OF THINS 10.01.2023

Connectivity IoT connectivity is the means by which an IoT device, which can be anything from a simple sensor in a factory to a self-driving vehicle and encompasses applications from streetlights to robots, connects to the cloud, other devices and integration points such as IoT gateways. Main technical requirement for connectivity of IOT devices: Coverage Energy Efficiency Data Rate 7 IOT – INTERNET OF THINS 10.01.2023

Data Processing In order to make sense of the massive amount of data our IoT sensors collect, we need to process it.  Wikipedia  explains data processing as “the collection and manipulation of items of data to produce meaningful information.” In other words, the purpose of data processing is to convert raw data to something useful. Something the end user can react to. Data Processing Cycle: Input Processing Output Consideration in data processing: Desired Output Storing Of Data Frequency of Updates Data processing tools 8 IOT – INTERNET OF THINS 10.01.2023

User Interface The user interface consists of the features by which a user interacts with a computer system. This includes screens, pages, buttons, icons, forms, etc. The most obvious examples of user interfaces are softwares and applications on computers and smartphones. Ways to Interact with an IOT solution: Receiving automatic notifications Monitoring Information proactively Controlling the system remotely UI Consideration in IOT: Connectivity Physical UI Simplicity Performance 11 IOT – INTERNET OF THINS 10.01.2023

Advantage and Disadvantages of IOT LOREM IPSUM DOLOR SIT AMET, CONSECTETUER ADIPISCING ELIT. MAECENAS PORTTITOR CONGUE MASSA. FUSCE POSUERE, MAGNA SED PULVINAR Advantages ability to access information from anywhere at any time on any device; improved communication between connected electronic devices; transferring data packets over a connected network saving time and money; and automating tasks helping to improve the quality of a business's services and reducing the need for human intervention. Disadvantages As the number of connected devices increases and more information is shared between devices, the potential that a hacker could steal confidential information also increases. Enterprises may eventually have to deal with massive numbers -- maybe even millions -- of IoT devices, and collecting and managing the data from all those devices will be challenging. If there's a bug in the system, it's likely that every connected device will become corrupted. Since there's no international standard of compatibility for IoT , it's difficult for devices from different manufacturers to communicate with each other . 13 IOT – INTERNET OF THINS 10.01.2023
