Summary: This article released by MiniTool corporation discusses the display and physical sizes of
the iPhone series including the next-gen iPhone 13. Generally, iPhone 13 will most probably inherit
the sizes of iPhone 12 and bring us with iPhone 13 displays of 6.1-inch Std/Pro, 5.4-inch Mini, and
6.7-inch Pro Max.
The iPhone size discussed in this article mixed with the physical size and display size. Please pay
attention to what kind of size it is talking about since it switches between the two types of size
frequently.
One thing you should be in mind is that from iPhone 10 on, iPhone starts to take advantage of full
screen, which means large physical size doesn’t always mean large display size. Yet, if you compare
iPhones within pre-iPhone 10 group or post-iPhone 10 group, the display size is still largely dependent
on physical size.
About iPhone Size
For a long period in the iPhone history, the size of the iPhone becomes larger and larger. From
iPhone 6 on, there is an extra larger version for each generation of the main product; for example,
iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone XS Max, iPhone 11 Pro Max, and iPhone 12 Pro
Max.
I believe many people had joked about the length of the iPhone since it seems to become longer and
longer. Some people even made funny pictures with about a meter-long iPhone to mock the
increasing size of the iPhone.

However, Apple suddenly changes its mind and release smaller iPhones in its iPhone 12 series. Those
small-shaped products are called iPhone 12 mini whose physical size shrinks back toward iPhone 5S
and iPhone SE (1st). The physical size of the iPhone 12 mini is a little bit larger than iPhone 5S and a
little bit smaller than iPhone 6.
The following is a comparison of the physical sizes of the history iPhone series. Its source is Apple
Newsroom Archive.

From the above picture, iPhone 6 Plus has the second-largest physical size among all the other
iPhones. Besides, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone 7 Plus, and iPhone 8 Plus share the same physical size as
iPhone 6 Plus.
Why iPhone Stops Growing Longer/Larger?
From iPhone 12 on, the size of the main generation of iPhone starts to shrink, iPhone 12 is smaller
than iPhone 11, for instance. Maybe Apple hears about what its users think about the growing taller
iPhone and decide to stop its child from growing taller anymore.
Or, if iPhone keeps growing taller, the aspect ratio will lose its balance and become
strange/uncomfortable for users. Also, it is inconvenient to carry a smartphone everywhere. If the
iPhone keeps growing larger, it may become an “iPad” and there is no size advantage for iPhone
over iPad for carriage.

iPhone 13 Size
According to the above information and the trend of iPhone size, the size of the iPhone 13 will
probably stay the same with iPhone 12. And, there will also be an iPhone 13 mini whose size will
keep close to iPhone 12 mini. Why?
iPhone 12 series’ size stops growing up and it’s good. Then, why chooses a size between iPhone X
and iPhone 11? Every choice Apple made is based on large investigation data and careful analysis.
So, the size iPhone 12 chooses is most suitable for modern users, so is the size of the iPhone mini
(it’s for customers who prefer small size).
Therefore, iPhone 13 will most probably keep the size of the iPhone 12. Yet, there is still a chance
that Apple will make the size of the iPhone 13 different from that of the iPhone 12 if it’s still testing
the preference of users.
Why not roll out iPhone 13 in several sizes just like iPhone 13 colors? We can’t deny that a few
people will think like that. However, it’s not possible for the more sizes, the more difficult to produce
and manage. For different sizes of products, different producing facilities are needed, which means
higher costs.
Also, relying on the rumors, iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro size will be 6.1 inches, iPhone 13 mini size
will be 5.4 inches, and iPhone 13 Pro Max size will be 6.7 inches.

In this table, the iPhones that have the same display size are in the same color. Yet, the iPhones that
have the same display size may not have the same physical sizes due to the screen type, full screen
or non-fullscreen. So, iPhones that have large physical sizes may have small display sizes like iPhone
6 Plus. Vice versa, those who have small physical sizes can also own large display sizes such as the
iPhone X, which is the first generation of iPhones that adopt full screen.
