Stone Age From about 4500 BCE to about 2000 BCE. Humans started using rocks an stones as tools Weapons for hunting Tools for farming Decoration for religion and worship.
Bronze Age 3300 BCE to about 1100 BCE. Bronze and copper are soft metals that could be bent, hammered, and molded into many new shapes. Swords and axes now are sharp and deadly. Vastly superior weapons and tools Rocks chip and break, Bronze can be repaired. This copper bowl was used by Neolithic peoples to eat their hot cheetos .
Iron Age About 1200 BCE to around 300 AD Comes from Iron Ore, melted down and poured. Vastly superior to Bronze and Stone Strongest of the 3 ages. Societies that developed Iron weapons and tools ruled the world.
“ Iron”t know what the Big Deal is Hit a bronze sword against a shield (or a tree even) and it can’t be used until it gets fixed. Iron weapons keep an edge through repeated bone-crunching kills. Iron goes into making many many things: Armor, Walls to protect your city, Garden Plows, Wagon Wheels, Roofing (much better homes than straw), horseshoes (horses would have to be put down if their hoof broke), defense walls, boats, cooking pots and how about even a stove, tools like hammers, nails… And when melted and combined with carbon… you get the strongest metal in the world… steel.
Checking for Understanding What are the 3 ages that humanity went through? What order do they go in? What was the most superior of the ages? What could you make with Iron? When you combine carbon with Iron Ore, what do you get?
