What is the definition of peace?

This definition adopted by UNESCO in 1995. “Tolerance is respect, acceptance and appreciation of the rich diversity of our world’s cultures, our forms of expression and ways of being human.  It is fostered by knowledge, openness, communication, and freedom of thought, conscience and belief.  Tolerance is harmony in difference .  It is not only a moral duty, it is also a political and legal requirement.  Tolerance, the virtue that makes peace possible, contributes to the replacement of the culture of war by a culture of peace.” From an editor’s note in the current “Teaching Tolerance” magazine from the Southern Poverty Law Center.  Let’s put this language in our plan, or in our back pockets. Tolerance Defined

What can we accept as givens It is in the best interest of all if there was a State of Palestinian Israel has a right to exist as a Jewish state Delegitimizing the right of Israel to exist as a Jewish state is equivalent to anti-Semitism At this time in history, the best solution is a 2 state solution. Certain settlements will need to be dismantled Democracy is the preferred manner of governance Freedom of speech, religion, press, assembly and to petition are desired freedoms worth fighting for. Iran cannot get “the Bomb” The Arab world needs to stop using the Palestinians as pawns in a war against the State of Israel Israel has made mistakes and has behaved cruelly at times
