Church of the Holy Apostles the curch before the war The church of the Holy Apostles, the symbol of the city , is a small Byzantine church (mid 11th-12th century) with some murals from the 14th century. It is located in the 23rd of March square , in the center of Kalamata. There, the fighters of 1821 swore allegiance to the revolution on March 23. This particular church was depicted on the lower right front side of the 5 thousand drachma banknote issued in 1984, next to the figure of Th. Kolokotronis . the emblem of our town 5000 drachma bill
Archaeological Museum of Messinia Its goal is the most complete presentation of the antiquities of Messinia over time , i.e. from Prehistoric times to the Byzantine era, so that the visitor, during his tour of the individual exhibition sections, can gain a comprehensive understanding of the cultural evolution of each region through the centuries. the inside & outside of the museum some of the exhibits

Castle of Kalamata It is located on a hill in the north-west of the city where the Nedon river passes at its foot. The inside of the castle included a fortified citadel , while temple ruins have also been found. According to mythology, Pharis had built there the Acropolis of the ancient city of Pharai . Ypapanti Church Among the most important things in the church is the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary (whose litany takes place every year on February 2) the so-called "Virgin Lady Ypapanti " , who is the patroness and patron of Kalamata. According to legend, the icon was found during the Turkish occupation by a stableman, after a vision he saw. The church is a landmark of the city. the litany the icon mentioned
Folklore Museum Its purpose is to gather archival material and objects related to the Revolution of 1821, as well as the preservation and promotion of objects of the newer culture of the wider region . You can see small thematic sections dealing with rural and pastoral life, agricultural crafts, textile art, pottery and urban occupations.
War Museum Its objective is the presentation of modern Greek history from the Revolution of 1821 to the present day, through texts, photographic and audio-visual material. In the courtyard of the museum, 1 M48-A5 tank, 1 M8 armored vehicle, guns and 1 F-5 aircraft have been installed.
Collection of Greek Costumes It is located in the Historical Center and includes one of the most complete collections of Greek local costumes at a pan-Hellenic level. The visitor has the opportunity to participate in a fascinating journey through history, culture, aesthetics and art . costume examples

Municipal Cultural Centre the inside & outside of the building
Central Public Library It already has around 7,400 book titles , covering subjects in medicine, psychology, children's literature, social sciences, IT, etc. It also has encyclopedias , dictionaries, art, educational and religious books. The library has procured a mobile unit that visits schools mainly in the remote areas from Kalamata, seeking to serve the school community by borrowing books, audio-visual material, etc.
Popular Library It was founded in 1933 by 46 intellectuals of the city and is one of the largest libraries in the Greek region . It has developed - and continues to develop - a rich and multifaceted cultural activity and has been honored with the first prize of the Academy of Athens. It has a reading room for 50 people, with a glass dome (for natural lighting) and air conditioning, as well as an outdoor reading room.
Gallery of Greek Modern Art Today its collection includes 510 paintings, drawings, many engravings, constructions and sculptures . Out of these, 120 are on display today, in the halls of the 4th floor of the Municipal Cultural Center of Kalamata. some of the exhibits the exhibition space

Railway Park The Municipal Railway Park of Kalamata has been operating since 1986 following the initiative of the municipality, with the participation of the Friends of the Railway Association. The museum consists of a former train station and a 54-acre park . the trains
