The Many Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh Schizophrenia

Media

The Many Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh Winnie the Pooh, one of america's most loved and cherished stories, took the world by storm when it was first published in 1926. This beloved story focuses on a young boy named Christopher Robin. The story follows Christopher growing up and having to leave his childhood “ friends” behind. A few of the stuffed toys he personalizes are a bear, tiger, pig and even a kangaroo.

Characters

Christopher Robin Christopher Robin is a young boy who believes his stuffed toys are real. He truly thinks that they go on adventures and that the animals communicate with him. Each one of Christopher's friends has a different personality trait. He even makes up a play land which he calls the “ Hundred Acre Wood “ where he meets with the his make believe friends.

Connection Christopher Robin seems like a normal child until you realize he believes his “ toys” are real. He thinks they go on adventures and that the stuffed animals are his friends. It is likely that by creating these characters in his head, they are representing feelings that he actually is experiencing but does not yet know how to deal with. He demonstrates most of, if not all of the symptoms for schizophrenia.

Schizophrenia Schizophrenia -A serious mental disorder in which people interpret reality abnormally. Schizophrenia may result in some combination of hallucinations; delusions, and extremely disordered thinking and behavior that impairs daily functioning, and can be disabling. Symptoms Delusions Hallucinations Disorganized thinking Extremely disorganized or abnormal motor behavior

Side Effects Each character in “The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh” represent an effect of Christopher Robins Schizophrenia. Each animal is a different emotion in his mind. He most likely made them up because he didn’t know how to deal with these emotions. The Hundred Acre Wood, the utopian forrest from his imagination could possibly be his idea of a simpler life. Winnie the Pooh represents the symptoms of ADD. Piglet suffers from a generalized anxiety disorder, while Owl has Dyslexia. Tigger has ADHD and Kanga Roo suffers from social anxiety. Rabbit represents OCD. Eeyore has a depressive disorder. ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)

Quotes “Nowhere is a wonderful place-especially when you’re beside your best friend.“ “Did you ever stop to think and forget to start again?” “I used to believe in forever but now I think forever is too short.”

My Take Most of the quotes I have from Christopher Robin seem almost childish until you put them into context, then you see how dark they really are. In the first quote he uses the term “nowhere is a wonderful place” insinuating that the events are unfolding in his head. He also makes a reference that as long as he is with his friends it doesn’t matter where they are. In the second quote Christopher Robin says something very strange. He asks if anyone has ever stopped thinking and forgotten to start again. This question really makes you think in terms of what is going on inside his mind. If Christopher Robin really does have Schizophrenia he would have some delusions and side effects that might cause him to have memory loss. Therefore, not being able to think or remember certain moments.
