OBJECTIVE To analyse the company profile with an overview of the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats of the company. To summarize the Organisational Structure of the company. To evaluate the functional areas of the company. To identify internal and external factors that affect Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats to activities or operations.

COMPANY PROFILE C ompany Background - multi-faceted company , largest, most vibrant and productive Public Sector Undertaking. -owned by the State government, established in 1964. -Client base, ranging from the army and air force of India to world-renowned space research organizations

4 Capital Structure - 400,00,000 equity share of face value of Rs. 10 each. -issue subscribed and paid up share is 34,05,937. -60,32,350 equity share held by Kerala State Industrial Enterprises Ltd. Market Potential -India level, KEL contributes to 2% need when its production is 100%. -In the state level, KEL’s marketing potential is around 35-40% of the market requirement.

Overall Organization Structure Four manufacturing units: KEL Train Lighting Alternator Division, Kundara , Kollam Inception: 1964 KEL LT Switch Gear Division, Olavakkod Inception: 1977 Transformer Division, Mamala Inception: 1969 Structural Engineering Division, Mamala Inception: 1969

Transformer Division at Mamala Unit Distribution Transformers 3,000 kVA , 33 kV class oil-filled and resin impregnated dry type; on load tap changing with Automatic Voltage Regulation. Structural Engineering Division at Mamala Unit . Design, fabrication and commissioning of hydraulic gates and hoists and their controlling equipment.   Design and construction of steel bridges, factory buildings, storage tanks, fabrication of pressure vessels and other industrial steel structures.

Departmental Analysis 1) Personnel and Administration Department - acquiring and developing personnel for achieving the objective of the organization. - responsible for recruitment . -focuses on general administration activities.

Finance and Accounts Department:- regulates the financial transactions of the company. -provides authorization and control to all the subsystem to utilize money more efficiently

Marketing Department : directly connected with the customers: KEL displays advertisements in certain electrical journals only. They have reorganized regional centres in the various major cities.

Material and Stores Department: - make the purchase that is required for the production and administrative department.

SWOT Analysis Strengths of the company Garnered many years of experience and expertise which has created a unique brand name as well as goodwill in the industry. It is financially sound and has a good infrastructural facility which has scope of expansion in the future. The organisation maintains good industrial relations which brings in clients every year. KEL’s product portfolio includes future ready product ranges. KEL’s personnel consist of dedicated and highly qualified technical staff. Weaknesses of the company Materials & Resource wastage Modern technologies and machineries are yet to be implemented. Decision making process as well as implementation is slow and time consuming. Lack of computerization of data and information in respective departments.  

Opportunities Opportunity of diversifying into various other facets of infrastructural development. Centralization of data resources. Immense scope for KEL to expand their reach into the northern markets of India. Threats Increasing amount of competition from private enterprises Political uncertainties could cause lot of stagnation in the decision making process. New government regulations and also foreign exchange fluctuations could be treated as threats to the firm. Absenteeism is an internal threat present in the organization.

CONCLUSION -Supplying essential equipments to various industrial concerns and various electricity boards in India. -KEL has got ISO 9000, 2000 etc. -efficient management team and highly dedicated employees are the most precious blessing of the company. -should be in touch with the market and its customers -was immensely educative and allowed me to get a broader perspective of a manufacturing firm and how it functions in real-time.
