CHAPTER ONE Background of the study Project management practices and theories have advanced in recent decades and substantial growth has been experienced in the adoption of project management disciplines to accomplish work in different industries and sectors, including the construction sector Statement of the Problem T he Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) encounter project postponements, cost overruns, and quality non-compliance, resulting in poor results and disgruntled parties, Such enhancements primarily impact cost and time delays in projects. Therefore , evaluating the project management practices of SMEs involves on construction project is crucial for the success of project work . Objective of the study The general aim of this study was to assess the practice of project management of Small and Medium Construction Firms in Nekemte City. Significant of the study T he research is important for SMEs projects as of the consequences of project failures and delays.

Data Collection Method Q uestioner is the data collection method In this study Sample Size Determination The total 100 project managers, purchasers, owners, cashiers and accountants of 150 SMEs which were straight worked on the construction project in Nekemte city was purposely consider.

CHAPTER FOUR RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS The chapter covers respondents‟ general information based on demographic information and findings based on how the research questions/objectives to assess project management practices in selected SMEs who were directly work on construction project in Nekemte city and the results were presented and interpreted.

CHAPTER FIVE CONCLUSION T he practice of project management on recognizing the project stakeholders and prepare their engagement plan were suitable in the small and medium construction companies in Nekemte City . RECOMMENDATION T he SMEs in Nekemte city must increase rate of completing project on time /earlier within/below budget ; meets project objectives under budget and schedule; deliver the benefits and meet the expectations of diverse beneficiaries including: stakeholders, donors; funding agencies, society and government; address customer’s requirements and enhance project manager’s capabilities plus increase profitability and their business success . the small and medium construction companies and project managers must establish the change management process as it keeps the team sharp to embrace changes E fficiently plan , execute and complete project by managing the project’s scope, quality, schedule, procurement, risks and resources to maximize productivity . T he SMEs must establish a project’s risk response team as it is the first line of defense for the project success and assist the project manager to keep the project under control even if unforeseen events occurs in the project environment.
RECOMMENDATION Cont.. P roject managers is being proactive through conduct regular team discussion sessions; delegate tasks to the team, create a sense of responsibility in the team; identify the project errors and implement strategies for improvement; adhere to timelines and set a similar pattern for the entire team . Areas for Future Researches There might be important critical factors like consultant didn’t included in this study , so it is recommended if such factors and the other success factors are included in factors list and analyzed.
