Introduction Kosambi also known as Pali , Kaushambi located in india It was an capital of Vatsa kingdom, one of the sixteen mahajanapadas (ancient kingdom) Located on Yamuna river (56km) southwest at Allahabad.

History It was the ancient city from the late Vedic empire until Gupta empire. It became capital by the rulers of Kuru kingdom, as the old capital was destroyed by the floods.

Cont…. Kosambi appeared to be very prosperous city due to its geographical location. This helped the city to become a trading hub. Thus people of Kosambi lived a happy and rich life.

Buddism in Kosambi In the time of Buddha, King Parantapa , kosambi was a city of great importance It was the most important halt for traffic coming to Kosala and Magadha from the south and the west.

Cont…. I n the Buddha's time there were four establishments of the Buddist Order in Kosambi : the Kukkutarama , the Ghositarama , the Pavarika-ambavana the Badarikarama .

Kausambi palace During excavation at kausambi , a palace was revealed with its foundations going back to 8 th century BCE until 2 nd century CE. It was built in six phases Roughly it included three blocks and two galleries.

Cont…. The palace was constructed using bricks and stones along with vast network of underground chambers, superstructures and galleries. A central hall surrounded by rooms for residential purposes . Pillars of Ashoka are found in Kosambi

K osambi during Muryans Kosambi remained a strong urban center through the Mauryan period and during the Gupta period. The present location of the Kosambi pillar inside the ruins of the fort attests to the existence of Mauryan military presence in the region
