Introduction The salient features of labor laws in Pakistan aim to protect the rights of employees and regulate the responsibilities of employers to ensure a balanced work environment.
Key features 1. Regulation of Employment Establish terms for hiring, dismissal, and termination. Ensure fair treatment and equal opportunities for all employees. 2. Working Hours Standard working hours are 8 hours per day and 48 hours per week.
Overtime is compensated at twice the regular hourly rate.
3. Minimum Wage Employers must pay at least the government-declared minimum wage, which is periodically revised.
Currently, the minimum wage is set by provincial governments. 4. Leaves and Holidays Annual Leave: 14 days of paid leave after completing 12 months of continuous service.
Sick Leave: 16 days of leave with half pay per year (medical certificate required).
Casual Leave: 10 days of fully paid leave annually for personal matters.

Grievance and Dispute Resolution Mechanisms for addressing workplace disputes, including labor courts and arbitration.

Key features 11. Equal Opportunity and Non-Discrimination Laws prohibit discrimination based on gender, religion, race, or ethnicity.
