What is LaCrOS ?
Lighting talk in BlinkOn 13 by Antonio
LaCrOS is an architecture project to decouple the Chrome browser
from the Chrome OS window manager and system UI.
The name comes from Linux And ChRome OS.
What is LaCrOS ?
Why LaCrOS ?
Independent browser and ChromeOS updates!
On ChromeOS, the system UI (including the Ash Window Manager, login
screen, etc) and the Web Browser are the same binary.
Lacros separates this functionality into two binaries, hence two
processes: ash-chrome (system UI) and lacros-chrome (Web Browser).
Architecture
Some of the key LaCrOS components
are Chrome OS’ built-in Wayland
Compositor (EXO) and the native Linux
Wayland support (on top of Ozone)
Architecture
Scope of the project includes
adding ChromeOS specific
capabilities to Chromium/Wayland
so that is acts like the ash-chrome
Web Browser.
