Importance Basis of agriculture and food production. Provides raw materials. Supports forests, biodiversity, and infrastructure.

Types • Forest Land • Agricultural Land • Fallow Land • Urban/Industrial Land

Issues • Soil erosion • Urbanization • Deforestation • Overgrazing

Problems • Land degradation • Loss of fertility • Drought and desertification

Effects • Reduced crop yield • Climate imbalance • Migration from rural areas

Prevention • Afforestation • Terrace farming • Soil conservation • Controlled grazing

Case Study: Rajasthan Rajasthan faces soil erosion and desertification. Overgrazing and deforestation increase desert spread. Government introduced watershed management and tree planting.

Government Steps • Desert Development Programme (DDP) • National Afforestation Programme • Land Reclamation Projects

Conclusion Land is essential for survival. Sustainable use ensures future safety.

Summary Meaning, problems, and prevention of land degradation covered. Conservation is everyone’s duty.
