Geography Class 6 Topic : Landforms

Our Earth Is unique 29% land and 71% water Most land in the northern hemisphere Southern hemisphere covered by oceans. The land has various physical features called Landform.

The solid earth surface has various physical features called Landforms. Example: Mountains, volcanoes, valleys, plateaus and plains. How are these landforms formed? Natural processes such as weathering, water, elevation and erosion of the soil are constantly shaping the earth. But this does not happen overnight. It takes hundreds and thousands of years to change. The process that shape the earth are both external and internal.

The earth like the house in the picture under goes changes overtime. There are two process that causes the change : Exogenic or External process Endogenic or Internal process

FORMATION OF LANDFORMS

Weathering:

Erosion:

Endogenic or internal process: This the process that happens inside the earth like earthquakes and volcanic activity that can be felt on the earth surface. These movements can be slow movements or sudden movements .

Slow movements: Vertical or Epeirogenic movements : Continent building movements. Causes rising or sinking on the curst without fracturing or folding the earth. Horizontal or Orogenic movements : Compressional forces. These forces create fold mountains.

Sudden movements : These movements happen from within the earth. Eg : Volcanic eruptions Earth quake
