INTRODUCTION The global health issue we are facing poses a great challenge to all sectors of the society particularly the education sector. The anxieties and uncertainties we are experiencing during this pandemic are not reasons to deprive the right of every child to education. Education must continue…. Not in the way we normally do. Hence, it’s high time to plan out carefully based on school’s data and situation the learning modalities and interventions to be employed ensuring that learning is not disrupted and health safety and welfare of all education stakeholders are not at stake.
LOOKING BACK Challenges (Problem/s Encountered or Existing Opportunities) Best Practice (Brief Description of Program/ Project/ Innovation) Results Increase in numbers severely wasted and wasted learners Project KUSINA (Kalan-an Udi Sigurado , Inungang Nagutom amon Alila -on) Delivery of SBFP and nutri -bun Improved nutritional status of learners.
LOOKING BACK Challenges (Problem/s Encountered or Existing Opportunities) Best Practice (Brief Description of Program/ Project/ Innovation) Results Some home learning partners don’t have the basic pedagogical skills on how to teach reading and numeracy. Project CHAT (Coaching, Home visitation And Text) Conduct home visitation, coaching and peer grouping among learning partners. Parents were guided to teach their child the basic pedagogical skills in reading. Possibility to acquire Covid 19 Virus Ensure that school environment is healthier an intensive disinfecting and sanitizing conducted everyday. Teachers were confident to report in school for an onsite duty to perform their duties and responsibilities even this time of pandemic
LOOKING BACK Challenges (Problem/s Encountered or Existing Opportunities) Best Practice (Brief Description of Program/ Project/ Innovation) Results Due to pandemic and no face-to-face instructions for kindergarten learner’s assessment. Develop a contextualized teacher made tool parallel to progress report. During the actual assessment parents manifested that the total tool was indeed very helpful and commendable. Hindrances encountered in implementing activities/ projects and program during pandemic Disseminate awareness and safety – consciousness of learners thru chats and text. Most learners were aware and participated in the activities conducted by the School DRRM
LOOKING BACK Challenges (Problem/s Encountered or Existing Opportunities) Best Practice (Brief Description of Program/ Project/ Innovation) Results Non-submission of action/basic research in this time of pandemic. Attendance of teachers in trainings and conferences through online, webinars and videos related to research. Teachers were able to conceptualize researches. Poor reading ability among learners Project KAMALIG (Kiosk of Accessible Materials Available for Learners’ Insight and Growth) A kiosk of reading materials to be place in the community For implementation subject to availability of funds.

RISK MANAGEMENT Anticipated Risks Mitigating Measures Delayed reproduction and distribution of LRs to schools Keep track/monitor the availability of LRs and secure its soft copy * Once soft copy is secured, initiate printing using local funds Printing of the SLMs developed by the teachers Assign Subject Teachers/Subject Coordinators to develop and/or harvest learning resources aligned with MELC at least good for the first two weeks
RISK MANAGEMENT Anticipated Risks Mitigating Measures Local transmission of COVID-19 virus is evident in the community * Enforce adherence of minimum health and safety protocol *Set School Protocols to be followed by all education stakeholders. Post it by school gate/entrance and/or publish it in the school’s official FB account or send to parents through mobile phone or private messenger. -Number of clients are controlled -Temperature check though thermal scanner -Mandatory wearing of facemasks -No entry for non-essential transactions and those who manifest symptoms such as fever, cough, runny nose, etc. -put markings on school hallways/pathways, canteens, classrooms and waiting area and other empty spaces of the school to mark the 1-meter distance to maintain social/physical distancing Orientation to parents and learners will be done in a limited participants and those who will not be reached through this modality will be contacted through text messaging, audio calls or send them orientation flyers/leaflets
RISK MANAGEMENT Anticipated Risks Mitigating Measures Local transmission of virus limits movement hence physical reporting of teachers to school is discouraged * Adhere CSC Alternative Arrangement guidelines * LAC sessions will be conducted virtually using online platforms Possible virus contamination of LRs retrieved from different households * Instruct learners/parents to observe handwashing and other health and safety protocol before and after using the LRs * Disinfect the retrieved LRs and allow it to stay untouched for several days Considering the school population, replenishing of sanitation supplies is costly *Encourage parents to provide hand sanitizer/alcohol to their own children *Partner with parents/private entity to sponsor sanitation/hygiene kits for learners
RISK MANAGEMENT Anticipated Risks Mitigating Measures Submission of unanswered modules Teachers will provide checklist and monitor the submitted modules. Monitor learners progress through learning partners report. Modules were answered by learning partners and other members of the family. *Conduct surprise/ unscheduled home visitation to test/ measure learners gain knowledge. *Strengthening the monitoring and evaluation of learners module.
