Jean Piaget J ean Piaget was a Swiss psychologist and philosopher who revolutionized an understanding of child cognitive development

Primary Objective To understand how children's thinking and reasoning abilities develop from infancy through adolescence

Sensorimotor Stage (Birth to 2 years. Preoperational Stage (2 to 7 years) Concrete Operational Stage (7 to 11 years) Formal Operational Stage (11 years and beyond) C hildren understand the world they live in through experiences and motor actions. They also begin to understand cause and effect. Language émerge, development symbolic actions, limited logical thinking and egocentric thinking. Less egocentric thinking, beginning of logical thinking about concrete issues, availability to classify and order objects and understanding of basic conversations. Piaget theory has a great impact in education. Chief among his impact include Acknowledging that children’s cognitive abilities develop in different stages means that educational approaches must be categorised to cater for a child’s developmental levels. Learning is seen as a process of building knowledge, not just receiving information. Teachers become facilitators of learning rather than mere importers of facts.
