1 DEFINITION: Expository writing is a form of discourse that aims to inform, explain, describe, or define a particular subject for the reader. It is characterized by a clear and concise presentation of facts, ideas, or concepts without the writer's personal opinions or emotions.
TYPES
3 5 2 4 1 Descriptive Exposition: Focuses on detailing the characteristics or features of a subject. Process/How-to Exposition: Explains a sequence of steps to achieve a particular outcome. Compare and Contrast Exposition: Highlights similarities and differences between two or more subjects. Cause and Effect Exposition: Examines the relationship between events or phenomena. Problem-Solution Exposition: Identifies a problem and proposes solutions.
PURPOSE AND APPLICATION Expository writing serves to impart knowledge, clarify concepts, or provide understanding. It finds applications in academic essays, articles, technical manuals, reports, and various informational documents. Its primary purpose is to convey information objectively and logically.
CHRACTERISTICS OF EXPOSITORY WRITING
