ULTRASOUND OF BLADDER Presenter:- Dr. Abdishakur Ahmed Mohamed {MBBS, DMRD, MSc. Infectious Disease}
Ultrasound examination of the urinary bladder and prostate.
The urinary bladder is a hollow muscular organ in humans and some other animals that collects and stores urine from the kidneys before disposal by urination . In the human the bladder is a hollow muscular , and distensible (or elastic) organ, that sits on the pelvic floor Brief Anatomy
Urine enters the bladder via the ureters and exits via the urethra . The typical human bladder will hold between 300 and 500 ml before the urge to empty occurs, but can hold considerably more. the bladder lies below the level of the umbilicus although in some individuals it can rise to this level when full. Its location is best understood in relation to surrounding organs and structures : Continue....

Criteria Round or Avoid in shape An echoic Appearance Smooth and regular surface Average Bladder volume 300 —500 ml Bladder Wall Thickness less than 5 mm Normal Bladder Ultrasound
Bladder Cystitis Bladder Stone Bladder Polyps Bladder Diverticulum Ureterocele of bladder Bladder balloon Bladder Mass Pathology / Abnormal Bladder Ultrasound
A bladder infection, also called cystitis, is caused by an abnormal growth of bacteria inside the bladder Bladder infection
Irregular Wall surface Thickness More Than ( 5) mm 1.Critaria of Bladder Cystitis
Hyper echoic Posterior shadow Mobile Usually found the lower part of bladder due to gravitational force 2.Critaria of Bladder Calculi (stone)
Hyper echoic mass No posterior shadow Usually found the lateral walls NB: If bladder polyps More Than ( 10cm) suspect malignant tumour 3.Critaria of Bladder Polyps
POLYP STONES Hyper echoic hyper echoic No shadow Shadow Non Mobile Mobile Polyp vs Stones
Out pouch Thiers post void urine due to muscle abnormality 4.Critaria of Bladder Diverticulum
a ureterocele is a swelling at the bottom of one of the ureters . Ureters are the tubes that carry urine from the kidney to the bladder. The swollen area can block urine flow. A ureterocele is a birth defect. The male and female urinary tracts are relatively the same except for the length of the urethra. 5.Ureterocele in bladder
A balloon catheter is a type of soft catheter with an inflatable ‘’balloon’’ at its tip which is used during a catheterization procedure to enlarge a narrow opening or passage within the body. 6.Catheter balloon
7. Bladder Mass
Multiple bladder masses.
