INTRODUCTION-: The term lecture is applied to a particular type of education in which teacher transmit information to a no. of student with the teacher talking & student listening or writing .
DEFINITION-: A lecture defined as carefully prepared oral presentation of facts organized thoughts & ideas by qualified person. The lecture should be – L =Lively E =Educative C =Creative T =Thought provoking U =Understandable R =Relevant E =Enjoyable
PURPOSES OF LECTURE-: A good lecture stimulate thinking. A lecture should be illuminate supplement, reinforce the topic being studied. A right teacher in the right course can in a single semester be more instructional than several year of independent reaching & unlimited group discussion.

PREPARATION FOR LECTURE- The objective of the lecture should be kept clearly in mind. The goal of lecturing is communication & it is more effective, if it is prepared before hand. The lecture should have a central theme. The lecture should contain a sequence of ideas. Time distribution is needed.

Ex. 1)Note the following… 2)I will ask you to recognize… Capture attention through out lecture. Change mode of presentation. Provide motivational cues.
TECHNIQUE OF THE LECTURE- Some nonverbal behavior play a significant role in a effective public speaking. Two aspect of nonverbal behavior Body language Voice
Four elements of body language-: Speaker audience distance. Body movement & stance. Facial expression. Gestures.
Voice-: Strength. Enunciation. Pronunciation . Rate of speech. Variety. Pauses.
ADVANTAGES OF LECTURE-: It is an efficient method of teaching where one teacher can communicate with large no. of student. Help to apparent time saving & resources. Teacher can plan exactly the presentation in advance. Well presented lecture may increase student motivation. Presence of teacher is needed. To present large amount of information in a short time.

DISADVANTAGES OF LECTURE- Effective lecture requires extensive research & preparation. To maintain students attention & motivation. It is difficult to adapt to individual learning differences. Keeps the students in passive situation provides only limited participation & stimulation. Student attention may want the need to suit the material presented to the level of understanding of all student.
It may be difficult for student to take complete & accurate note. Low receptivity seen among student. Teachers bias may be evident.
