Introduction To LEED v4 for Building Design and Construction (New Construction)

Stages of Construction

Team Matrix

Modules

Location and Transportation (LT) Location and Transportation Sustainable Sites Water Efficiency Energy and Atmosphere Materials and Resources Indoor Environmental Quality

LT Credit: LEED for ND Location Locate the project within the boundary of a development certified under LEED for Neighbourhood Development Note: Projects attempting this credit are not eligible to earn points under other LT credits

LT Credit: Sensitive Land Protection Locate the development footprint on land that has been previously developed

LT Credit: High-Priority Site Locate the project on an infill location or on a brownfield where soil and groundwater contamination has been identified

LT Credit: Surrounding Density and Diverse Uses Prominent public amenities should be located in the vicinity of the building and surrounding areas should meet the prescribed density

LT Credit: Access to Quality Transit Public transit stops and/or metro rail stations should be located within the specified distance from the main entrance of the project

LT Credit: Bicycle Facilities Provide designated bicycle storage space in the parking area and also provide on-site shower room in common areas as per prescribed norms

LT Credit: Reduced Parking Footprint Do not exceed the minimum local code requirements for parking capacity.

LT Credit: Green Vehicles Provide electric charging facilities for hybrid vehicles in the parking areas

Module Summary Location and Transportation Sustainable Sites Water Efficiency Energy and Atmosphere Materials and Resources Indoor Environmental Quality

Sustainable Sites (SS) Location and Transportation Sustainable Sites Water Efficiency Energy and Atmosphere Materials and Resources Indoor Environmental Quality

SS Prerequisite: Construction Activity Pollution Prevention Create and Implement an erosion and sedimentation control plan for all construction activities

SS Credit: Site Assessment Assess site conditions before design to evaluate sustainable design options

SS Credit: Site Development – Protect or Restore Habitat Use native and adaptive vegetation species to restore the disturbed site surface

SS Credit: Open Space Provide pedestrian-oriented outdoor spaces and a portion of this open space should be vegetated and/or shaded

SS Credit: Rainwater Management The annual post-development storm water run-off should be less than the pre-development run-off volume

SS Credit: Heat Island Reduction Use high reflective materials for flooring in roof and non-roof areas visible to sky to minimize microclimatic effect by reducing heat islands

SS Credit: Light Pollution Reduction Increase night sky access, improve night time visibility, meet light trespass requirements

Module Summary Location and Transportation Sustainable Sites Water Efficiency Energy and Atmosphere Materials and Resources Indoor Environmental Quality

Water Efficiency (WE) Location and Transportation Sustainable Sites Water Efficiency Energy and Atmosphere Materials and Resources Indoor Environmental Quality

WE Prerequisite: Outdoor Water Use Reduction Reduce the irrigation water demand of the project with efficient choice of vegetation species. The percentage reduction has to be calculated against the prescribed base case.

WE Prerequisite: Indoor Water Use Reduction Reduce potable water demand of the building by selection of low flow fixtures (both flushing and flow fixtures) having flow rates less than the prescribed base case.

WE Prerequisite: Building Level Water Metering Install permanent water meters that measure the total potable water use for the building and associated open areas

WE Credit: Cooling Tower Water Use For cooling towers, conduct a one-time potable water analysis, measuring the 5 control parameters prescribed by LEED

WE Credit: Water Metering Install permanent water meters to measure minimum 2 of the following: Irrigation, Indoor Plumbing Fixtures, Domestic Hot Water, STP, RWH etc.
