OBJECTIVES At the end of this lesson you will be able to: Differentiate the three components of NSTP. Explain why Field/Community Immersion is important. Recite the Vision, Mission and Core Values of NBSPI.
NSTP What is
The conceptualization and the establishment of the NSTP for tertiary level students is amended in the Republic Act 7077 and Presidential Decree No. 1706. This was enacted by the Senate and House Representatives in Congress, which is known as the National Service Training, Act of 2001.

The Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS) is one of the NSTP components as an option vice ROTC of the incoming freshmen male or female students effective SY 2002-2003 (Section 4, RA 9163).
In this program, the students would undergo lectures/activities contributory to the general welfare and the betterment of life for the members of the community and to render services particularly the enhancement of instructional support materials and facilities in the following areas : (a) improving health (b) education (c) environment (d) entrepreneurship (e) safety (f) recreation (g) morale of the citizenry (h) Other social services.
What is the role of the youth in the society
The students will undergo actual community service involvement. Projects and activities are designed to encourage the youth to contribute in the improvement of the general welfare and the quality life for the local community applying various institutional components. More particularly, these are in terms of health education, safety, livelihood, environment, and the morale of the citizenry.

The importance of CWTS as a whole is geared towards the development and re-direction of positive values and attitude among students. This is by giving them the chance to see that among students. This is by giving them the chance to see that they can create a difference in their own ways. Thus, making them appreciate their role and responsibilities not only as students but it in their family, community and to the nation as a whole.
COMMUNITY IMMERSION
WHAT IS COMMUNITY IMMERSION?
What is Field/Community Immersion? Community Immersion is a strategy that goes beyond acquainting us with community concerns but makes possible our participation in the (re)solution . It is devised as a strategy in molding students just so that they may be socially aware and responsible to their communities. Through this immersion, students will be exposed in further and other realities of life which they may or not belong to.
PERCEPTS OF FIELD/COMMUNITY IMMERSION Students should immerse in actual community life to get to know the social, political, and economic situation of the people. Students may also undergo certain changes like increase in knowledge about the social realities, development of good values, empathy towards other people, improvement of social skills, among others. Students should identify the community people’s interest and aspirations..
Students must recognize resiliency and does not rob them of their right to have community participation and determination of appropriate courses of action. Students must reflect on how their social analysis of the current situation is concretized in community people’s lives. The analysis should have as much meaning for the trainees as for the community
FORMS OF INTEGRATION IN COMMUNITY IMMERSION Home Visits Living with selected families preferably with key formants Informal discussions with individuals or groups Sharing household and community activities (clean up drive) Attendance in social gatherings (fiesta) Assistance in production work (selling)

WHAT PERSONAL GAINS MAY A STUDENT GET FROM FIELD/COMMUNITY IMMERSION? Opportunity for the students to comprehend people’s lives because of the chance given to them to see real life situations, live, identify and associate with the people therein. Gain social acceptance derived from community relations coupled with the right to offer services. Enhance experiences in conducting asset mapping such as identifying geographic coverage point out resources and the use and the relationships of people with existing resources.
Establishing rapport and relationship with different people who may be of help to them at some future time. It helps them realize issues that will help solve problems in the community. It is important for them to do something for them to do something that can change their situation. Acquire first-hand experiences in dealing with community works Have a chance to learn life skills that will enrich and better their persons.
