MOTIVATION (JUMBLED LETTERS)

Dance is a series of movements performed while music is playing or a series of movements that are done as music is playing.

One kind of dance is the folk dance. It is a dance that originated as a ritual among a group of people. It is defining characteristic of that group of people and is passed on from generation to generation.

The following are some of the famous traditional folk dance in the country.

CARINOSA - The word carinosa is Spanish. It means “the affectionate one.” It is a courtship dance bet ween a man and a woman and is popular throughout the country. The dancers perform steps resembling hide-and-seek movements.

Polka sa Nayon - Is a lively couple dance of Bohemian origin in duple time with a basic pattern of hop-step-close-step.

Basic Polka Dance Steps Plain Polka – step, close, step, pause Heel and Toe polka – Heel place, toe point, step, close, step pause.

Sayaw sa Bangko - Is a folk dance performed by a couple on a narrow bench, inching and hopping from one end to another. Dancing skills are shown while maintaining balance on the bench and moving about.

ETHNIC DANCES Is a dance that shows the characteristic of a particular cultural group. Hence, ethnic dances represent the culture and tradition of a particular place.

These dances, which are integral to a community’s way of life are the following:

Ritual Dances – These dances connect the material world to the spiritual. Life Cycle Dances – These dances celebrate an individual’s birth, baptism, courtship, wedding and demise. Occupational Dances – These dances transform defense and livelihood activities to celebratosry performances.

Modern dance steps may also be used in traditional dance music. What is important is that the correct timing or meter of music must be used.
