I Express My Love and Faith in God

Life Performance Outcome I am a mindful, self-directed learner and role model, consciously expressing my faith.

Essential Performance Outcome Consistently practice their Catholic Faith by manifesting Paulinian values, qualities, inner convictions, and actions, that mirror it.

Intended Learning Outcome Reveal the importance of faith that makes them unique from others; Identify and define the truths of the First, Second & Third Commandments. Pray and obey God’s commandments sincerely and attend Mass on Sundays and Holy days of obligation with members of the family.

GOALS Doctrine: The 1st and 2 nd commandments (love for truth and Reverence for God) Exodus 20:3,7); The 3rd commandment says, "The seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, holy to the Lord" [Ex 31:15]. Scripture recalls that God created in six days and "rested the seventh day," thus blessing "the sabbath day" [Ex 20:11] [CCC 2168-2170]

GOALS Morals: Two important actions that the Ten Commandments promote: Reverence for God and respect for our fellow human beings [CFC 870] Worship: The greatest commandment of love is expressed in the love and total giving of oneself nourished through the Holy Eucharist and prayer life.

Introduction to the Commandments The Ten Commandments are rules given by God. They help us live good and holy lives.

The Importance of Faith Faith makes us unique and special. It guides our actions and decisions. Faith helps us stay close to God.

The First Commandment "I the Lord, am your God, you shall not have other gods besides Me." The First Commandment teaches that our love for God should be wholehearted, involving our heart, soul, and strength. This is reflected in the gospel of Matthew (Matthew 22:37), calling us to love the Lord with all aspects of our being

The First Commandment "I the Lord, am your God, you shall not have other gods besides Me." Put God above all else. Worshipping God is to adore, love, and serve Him.

Why Worship Only God? God is our Creator and deserves our love. Worshiping other things can lead us away from God. Staying true to God keeps us on the right path.

The Second Commandment "You shall not take the name of the Lord, your God, in vain." The Second Commandment teaches us not to abuse the Lord's name because it is holy. This is outlined in Matthew 5:34-37 by discouraging the misuse of God's name and emphasizing the importance of truthful speech.

The Second Commandment "You shall not take the name of the Lord, your God, in vain." We live the second commandment by respecting God's name, then the name of Jesus, holy places, and sacred things. Acts of disrespect: Cursing is wishing evil on someone. Swearing calls on God to witness that we are telling the truth.

The Third Commandment "Remember to keep holy the Lord's Day." The Third Commandment teaches the significance of setting aside a day for worship and rest, finding renewal in God's presence. This is echoed in the letter to the Hebrews (Hebrews 4:9-10), highlighting the concept of a Sabbath rest for the people of God.

The Third Commandment "Remember to keep holy the Lord's Day." We must participate in the Mass on Sunday or Saturday evening for the anticipated Sunday Mass and on all holy days of obligation, such as Good Friday, Christmas, All Saints' Day, Assumption, Immaculate Conception, and the like.

Why Rest on the Sabbath? God rested on the seventh day after creation. We rest to honor God's example. Resting helps us focus on God and family.

Attending Mass Going to Mass is a way to worship God. It brings us closer to God and our community. We should attend Mass on Sundays and holy days.

Living the Commandments The commandments guide our actions every day. They help us show love and respect for God and others. Following them makes us better people.

Faith as the Complete Submission of Will and Intellect to God's Will Faith is man’s response to God's revelation. It means trusting God completely with our hearts, minds, and confidence. Believing in the first three commandments includes acknowledging and respecting God as the only proper authority, worshiping Him exclusively, and conducting one's life in a way consistent with His nature and teachings.

Sins against Faith Sins against faith are actions or attitudes that go against our belief in God and His teachings. Here are a few examples:

Sins against Faith Doubt is when we question or feel unsure about our faith. It’s okay to have questions, but if doubt lingers, it can weaken our faith. We can pray, read the Bible, and learn from trusted sources like the Church to overcome doubt.

Sins against Faith Heresy is when we knowingly reject or distort Church beliefs. We must understand and agree with the Church's teachings to prevent heresy.

Sins against Faith Apostasy is when we abandon the Christian religion. To overcome it, we should think about the reasons behind our lack of faith and ask for help from people who can lead us back to God.

Sins against Faith Indifference is when we lose interest in God or spiritual things. We can change this through prayer, consistent Church attendance, and charitable work.

Sins against Faith We must remember that God is always willing to forgive and restore our faith when we seek Him. We can overcome sins against faith and strengthen our relationship with Him through prayer, confession, and a willingness to understand more about the faith

Demonstrating and Witnessing Faith in One's Life Faith needs to be lived out. We can demonstrate and give witness to it when we do some of these ways:

Demonstrating and Witnessing Faith in One's Life Set a good example for others by treating them with kindness, compassion and respect, and live your life in line with your religious beliefs. Strengthen your relationship with God through prayer and worship.

Demonstrating and Witnessing Faith in One's Life Serve others and practice charity. Learn more about your faith regularly and impart that knowledge to others. Forgive others when they hurt us, try to make things right, and restore peace in our relationships through reconciliation.

Demonstrating and Witnessing Faith in One's Life Face challenges with faith and trust in God by being strong and persistent when things are tough. Listen with care and try to understand how someone else feels. Express gratitude for blessings and acknowledge God's presence in your life.

Conclusion The first three commandments help us love and honor God. They guide us to live holy and respectful lives. Remember to pray, attend Mass, and follow God's commandments.

Processing Questions: Why do you think it's important to worship only God? How can we show respect for God's name in our daily lives? Why is it important to attend Mass with your family? As a Paulinian, how can you show love to God and your neighbors every day?
