PRAYER BEFORE STARTING A CLASS Heavenly Father and Your Beloved Son Jesus Christ, We thank you for giving us another life, We thank you for another Beautiful Afternoon. As we go on through our lessons today, May you make us instruments to do good things. Please enlighten our minds, Give us strength to participate in our subject today. Amen

Light Energy Lesson 21

Light A form of energy that can be seen. It is made up of billions of tiny particles called photons .

Sources of Light The sun is the main source of natural light that brightens the environment.

Sources of Light Objects that produce their own light are called luminous sources.

Sources of Light Artificial luminous sources

Sources of Light Objects that reflects light from other sources are called nonluminous objects.

Characteristics of Light Light travels in a straight line. When light is blocked by an object, a shadow is formed.

T ransparent T ranslucent Opaque O bjects can be classified based on how much light can pass through them.

Transparent Objects When light strikes a transparent object, almost all of the light passes through it.

Translucent Objects When light strikes a translucent object, only some of the light passes through it.

Opaque Objects When light strikes an opaque object, it blocks the light from passing through to the other side.

Characteristics of Light 2. Light bounces off a surface Light bounces back or reflects when it strikes a shiny object. The bouncing of light is called reflection .

Characteristics of Light 3. Light bends. Refraction is the bending of light when it passes through different materials where its speed is changed.

Characteristics of Light 4. Light forms different colors. The color that you see in a particular object is not contained within the object itself. When light hits an object, some of it is absorbed and some is reflected by the object.

Heat Energy Lesson 22

Heat A form of energy that is measured by temperature. Temperature tells how hot or cold an object is.

Sources of Heat The sun is the natural source of heat on Earth

Sources of Heat Heat can also produced in many ways. This is possible through the use of fuels and friction. The process of burning fuels is called combustion.

Sources of Heat Friction can also produce heat. This can be done by rubbing two objects quickly together.

Heat Transfer

Effects of Heat on Objects 1. Heat can change the temperature of an object.

Effects of Heat on Objects 2. Heat can change the size of an object.

Effects of Heat on Objects 3. Heat can change the state of an object.

Movement of Heat 1. Heat moves in a solid object. This movement of heat energy from particle to particle is called conduction. Conductors Insulators

Movement of Heat 1. Heat moves in a solid object.

Movement of Heat 2. Heat move in liquids and gases. Convection current carries heat from one place to another.

Movement of Heat 3. Heat moves in space.
