What is Documentary? A  documentary film  or  documentary  is a non-fictional  motion-picture  intended to "document reality, primarily for the purposes of instruction, education or maintaining a  historical record ". U sing pictures or interviews with people involved in real events to provide a factual report on a particular subject. A film or television or radio programme that provides a factual report on a particular subject.

How to prepare for a documentary? (Pre-Production) First develop an idea- Do brainstorming , group discussion , daydreaming , etc Then select a particular topic of interest Then do a research on the topic, subject, and on the background Write a story outline – the first draft Make a flowchart of your story (Use sticky Notes) Make list of people to be interviewed / schedule their shoot day Make list of locations to visit

How to shoot a documentary? (Production) Arrange and prepare your camera , Tripod/gimble, microphone If you Don’t have camera, take your smartphone to the ground Make a shot list Shoot with the camera / phone Keep Proper Lighting Shoot according to your rough script / also go beyond it and take as many extra shots as possible Conduct Interview , Vox pop , Piece to camera Always re-check the footage shot Make a check list of Calling, shot, edit

Camera Handling/setting Set a proper White Balance Aperture Shutter speed ISO Focus ( Manual/ Auto) Exposure Control the Aperture, Shutter speed and ISO for a well Expose Video Image In case you are unable to control the camera in Manual Mode , Use Auto Mode in both Camera or Smartphone
