History One germen phycist . Harald Haas has come up with a solution he calls “data through illumination” –by sending data through an LED light bulb that varies in intensity faster than the human eye can follow. He had coined the term Li-Fi firstly in TED Global talk conference in UK on VLC. Haas says his invention, which he calls D- LIGHT, can produce data rates faster than 10 megabits per second.

Introduction Li-Fi means “Light Fidelity”. At the heart of this technology is a new generation of a high brightness light emitting diode. It is possible to encode data in the light by varying the rate at which the LED’s flickeron and off to give different strings of 1’s and 0’s

It’s Features Li-Fi technology is based on LEDs for the transfer of data. The transfer of the data can be with the help of all kind of light i.e Light may be Invisible, Ultraviolet or Visible part of spectrum. The speed of the internet is incredibly high and the user everything in just a few minutes.

Working

Electro Magnetic Spectrum

Capacity Availability Security Efficiency Issues Regarding Radio Spectrum

Capacity Radio Waves Cost and expensive Less Band Width Availability Available with in the base stations Limited availability Unavailable in air crafts

Efficiency Million of Base Station consume huge amount of energy for transmitting the radio waves. 5% efficiency. Security Less Secure(passage through walls)

Applications Used for modern medical instruments. Used in petroleum or chemical plants where other transmission or frequencies could be hazardous. Thousands and millions of street lamps can be transferred to Li-Fi lamps to transfer data. In Aircrafts.

Applications in Industries

Applications in Aeroplanes

Advantages of LI-FI It is possible to achieve more than 10Gbps, theoretically allowing a high-definition film to be downloaded in 30sec. Mostly powered by LEDs so it is cost efficient. Transmission of data is fast and easy. Its main advantage is it’s Bandwidth is 10,000 times than the radio waves.

Disadvantages Presence of light is essential. There should be line of sight Works better with fluorescent light and LEDs but very low efficiency with Bulbs.

Conclusion The concept of Li-Fi is currently attracting a great deal of interest, not least because it may offer a genuine and efficient alternative to radio-based wireless. As a growing number of people and their devices access wireless internet, the air waves are becoming increasingly clogged, making it more and more difficult to get a reliable, high-speed signal. So Li-Fi has a bright future.
