3. Key Ideas Light is a form of energy. Light travels in straight lines. The speed of light is the fastest. The sun is the most important source of light. The stars and moon are also natural forms of light. Artificial light is light made by humans, for example candles, torch light, fire and oil lamps.

Vocabulary for Light Absorption = absorption happens when light stops as it hits an opaque object Opaque = an object is opaque when all light is absorbed or reflected; i .e. light cannot pass through it Translucent = a substance that allows some light to pass through it Transparent = a substance that allows most of the light to pass through it Reflection = when light bounces off of an object Prism  = something that bends light, but is not a lens Visible Spectrum = the light energy that humans can see Shadow = a dark area or shape produced by an opaque body coming between rays of light and a surface
