WHY lightning protection? REGULATORY / LAWS/ BUILDING CODES APPROVAL All BUILDINGS/ STRUCTURES are mandatorily recommended to provide lightning protection systems even for ARID AREAS– example being Dubai high rises & villas. WHERE IT STRIKES ? Lightning is known to strike ground level, small structures, solar panels even on ground moving animals/ humans. ( CHECK GOOGLE to see many such pics/ videos). It’s a myth ONLY TALL STRUCTURES need protection. SO WHAT TYPE OF STRUCTURES NEED PROTECTION ? Any area/ structure that has significant number of humans/ expensive machinery / data centres or telecom radar / solar panels/ historical & heritage structures / any flammable etc. WHAT IF I DON’T PUT ANY PROTECTION? INSURANCE surveyor during damage calculation will give Negative Points if NO LIGHTNING PROTECTION is found / proved to be installed. RISK IS YOURS , GOD BLESS. BUT NOBODY ELSE IS PUTTING- SO WHY I SHOULD? Our recommendation as ENGINEERING SOLUTIONS always keeps SAFETY OF LIFE & ASSETS in highest consideration. Lightning is ONE OF WORLDS BIGGEST REASON OF DESTRUCTION. Do not copy an idiot. MOST CONTRACTORS ARE HAPPY PUTTING A SIMPLE ROD/ RODS AROUND BUILDING CONTRACTORS are NOT GOING TO SHARE YOUR DAMAGE BURDEN / LOST REVENUE in case of a LIGHTNING STRIKE. LIGHTNING STRIKES are also considered BAD OMEN in our world culture – as GODS are UNHAPPY with you ! One hotel lost ALL business after a lightning strike as public got scared ( incident recorded in DEHRADUN, high altitude area ) OUR FAVOURITE QUOTE :: QUALITY IS EXPENSIVE , BUT SAFETY IS PRICELESS !!!
dangers of not using THE LIGHTNING PROTECTION SYSTEM A lightning bolt is a sudden change in electrical current. This causes waves, following Maxwell's Laws. Nothing constrains the frequency of those waves, and so they occur all up and down the spectrum. That includes the frequencies your radio is tuning in to. In fact, the earliest radio transmissions did precisely this. They created a small spark, like a very tiny burst of lightning, and that burst would be received at the other end. (The device is called spark gap transmitter. Basically, they were "listening" for bursts of static. That could be used only to transmit a simple code, like Morse code. As they refined it they would limit it to a small set of frequencies. Lightning isn't so polite. It sprays electromagnetic waves all over the frequency spectrum. The result is interference with those other radio signals trying to use narrow ranges of frequencies. A real storm has continual bursts of lighting, mostly unseen, causing a background of static.
HAM RADIO SHACKS have been hit by lightning strikes many times. Many hams have a VHF/UHF radio and antenna for local communication, especially if they are involved in EmComm . Ideally you have an exterior antenna up high for best performance with your radio. The downside to that is that vertically-oriented VHF/UHF monopole antennas are a juicy target for lightning strikes. Basically, they look like a lightning rod but are rod. So, what am I at risk of? Most of the time, we are endangered by surges that lightning creates in a wider area. But how can a lightning surge enter an amateur radio station? From our “connections” with the outside world, or more correctly put from any cable that enters or leaves our station: From the telephone line. From the PPC power line. From the feedline of our antenna. From rotor, switch, antenna ( steppir ) control cables From the ground (!!!) So we must keep in mind that for good lightning protection, every connection of our station with the outside world must be protected! Everything that enters our shack must be protected so that it does not bring in anything bad. Most of the time, it is not enough to just put a lightning arrestor on our antenna coax and not at very least disconnect the antennas and unplug them during a storm!!!
Principle of working

The mast/ pole, nut bolting are all local materials OR you can source from EUROSTAR which typically has very high-quality SS masts. The EARTHING MATERIALS including GI / COPPER electrodes and chemicals choice are yours to decide. EUROSTAR has Earth enhancing chemical bucket of 10-kgs which you can use as well.
