2. In garment manufacturing process main raw material is fabric. It is not possible to make garment only with fabric. To make complete garment different types of auxiliary materials are used. These auxiliary materials are called trims and accessories. Garment trims and accessories are very important to make garments aesthetic, functional and commercially acceptance. But trimmings and accessories are not same. There function and looks are completely different. We have discussed about trims and accessories in the following section.

3. Trimmings: Trimmings or trims are attached with the body of garments by sewing. These materials are used in sewing room with fabric. Trims are directly attached with garments. These are used for functional purposes.

13. How to Select Garment Accessories in Apparel Industry Selection of garment accessories: In garment manufacturing, accessories are the second important material after fabric. It plays a vital role in apparel manufacturing to make garments and shipping it up-to the buyer. Selection of trims and accessories is generally carried out depending on types of accessories, types of products, and whether the accessories are to be used for men’s wear, women’s wear, or children’s wear. Usually, for value-added products, garment accessories should be selected from approved sources after carrying out quality inspection as per international standards. Proper care should be maintained while selecting clothing accessories for children’s wear.

14. Garment accessories: A garment accessory is an item that is used to contribute, in a secondary manner, to the wearer’s outfit. Accessories are often used to complete an outfit and are chosen to specifically complement the wearer’s look. Although garment or apparel accessories are additional components worn along with garments, go a long way not just in enhancement and beautifying the overall look of a garment but also have functional aspects. Garment accessories contribute to the aesthetic appeal and functionality of the garment to the wearer.

21. List of Trims Used in Garments | Quality of Garments Trimming Trimming: All the garments materials expect fabric required to make readymade garments are known as trimming. And it is attached in garment with sewing. All types of trimmings are mainly used to furnishing garments. Garments trimmings are attached to the garments before and after finishing the garments in garments manufacturing technology. Buyers are recommended to garments factories, which kind of trimmings are used for make a garments? Some trimming can be seen outside and some cannot be seen from outside the garments.

23. Note: Always remember that trimmings and accessories are not same. Those are completely different. Accessories are not attached with the body of garments by sewing. It is only used for finishing purpose. Example: Carton, poly bag, safety pin etc.

24. Types of Trimmings: There are two types of trimming .They are Visible trimming & Invisible trimming. Visible trims can be seen from outside of the garments. For example: interlining.

25. Uses of Trimming in Apparel Industry: Trimming are used mainly two purposes such as- Functional purpose: Example- Zipper, Button, Label etc. Decoration purpose: Example- Lace, Braid, Motif etc.

28. Quality of Garments Trimming: Textile materials or non-textile materials are mainly used to make garments trimming. But they should be selected carefully to get desire performance from them. The important qualities of trimming are given below: A.Life time If the trimmings become fade or break then garment will not be wearable. So life time of trims should be equal to garments.

29. Shrinkage If trims become shrinkage by washing or ironing as a result appearance of the garment may be hampered. And ultimately garment will not be wearable. So the shrink ability of the fabric and the trimming should be checked earlier. C. Color fastness Colorfastness is very important for trimming. If fastness become poor then garment will be also poor appearance. The color of trimming should not be faded due to washing or exposure to sunlight.

30. Rust The trimmings which are made from metal, then material should become rust free. If rusting occurs they will create spot on garment. So before using in garments then obviously check that is electroplated. E. Comfort ability Trimming should become hygienic and obviously comfortable.
