TEEL Paragraphs EQ: How do I write an effective TEEL paragraph?

Critical Read Steps to complete a critical read: Number the paragraphs Underline or highlight key information Write connections or annotations in the margins We will then write the notes from the critical read into our Y-Chart on our RHS.

Governor-General Critical Read Notes Head of State is the king (King Charles III) Represented in Australia by the Governor-General Does not make laws or run the government Main duty is giving Royal Assent – signing laws on the Kings behalf In rare cases, can dismiss a Prime Minister Attends formal events, meets citizens and presents awards

Prime Minister Critical Read Notes Leads the Australian Government Head of the party with the most seats in the House of Representatives Sets national policies, makes key decisions and represents Australia internationally Selects ministers and leads Cabinet meetings Works with the Legislative to pass laws and manage the national budget

Ministers Critical Read Notes Chosen by the Prime Minister to manage specific government areas. Areas such as health, education, defence or finance. Oversee departments, manage policies and put plans into action. The Cabinet makes key decisions. Cabinet members are responsible for the most important areas of government.

TEEL Paragraph Elements Topic Sentence The topic sentence needs to address the question and is a good place to define a key term that is the topic of the paragraph. Explanation The next sentence is the explanation where you give further detail to describe and explain what you are talking about. Example Depending on the topic, you need to give examples or evidence to back up/ support what you have mentioned in the explanation . Linking Sentence Summary statement where you link your main point back to answering the question .

For example, they repeal old laws because they aren’t relevant anymore due to society always changing. Another role of the legislative branch is to represent the people of Australia . This means that the views of an electorate are heard in parliament. For example, the people in the electorate of Brand have lobbied for a train station at Karnup, so the federal member for Brand has voiced these views in parliament. As a result, planning for a train station has started. In summary, two roles of the legislative branch are to amend and repeal laws, and to represent the people of Australia.
