Review: Elements of A Short Story Setting Character Conflict Theme Plot.
Lesson Objectives: After going through this lesson, you are expected to: 1. define and differentiate Literal Language and Figurative Language; 2. identify and categorize examples of Literal Language and Figurative Language used in the materials presented or in the given sentences; and 3. give examples or construct sentences using Literal Language and Figurative Language.
Activity: A Ranging Race Direction: Each group will be given sets of jumbled letters numbered 1-5. You are going to arrange the jumbled letters and guess the correct word by using the given synonym as clue. You have to stick your answers on the manila paper parallel to the given clues. As soon as you are done with your work you have to post it on the wall or on the board nearest to your place. Take note that the first group to finish the task and the group who will have the highest score will merit additional points and a price.
Process Questions: Did you find the activity difficult? What are the words that you have formed? How were you able to guess and arrange the jumbled letters correctly? Are you familiar with the words that you have formed? Can you give some more/another synonym of the given words? From the game that we have played, what do you think will be our lesson for today?

LITERAL LANGUAGE has the basic meaning or no other meaning refers to words being used exactly according to their usual meanings. is used to mean exactly what is written or exactly what it says. uses words exactly according to their conventionally accepted meanings or denotation. maintains a consistent meaning regardless of the context with the intended meaning corresponding exactly to the meaning of the individual words
FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE has hidden or underlying meaning refers to words going beyond their usual meanings to get a point across. is the use of words or phrases that implies a non-literal meaning uses words in a way that deviates from their conventionally accepted definitions in order to convey a more complicated meaning or heightened effect. It uses figures of speech such as simile, metaphors, hyperbole, and personification to describe something often through comparison with something different.
Activity 1: Direction: Complete the graphic organizer by filling it with the details being asked. You have to compare and contrast Literal Language and Figurative Language through giving their similarities and differences.
Activity 2: Direction: With a partner, list down 5 sentences from the lyrics of the song “Let It Go” which you think are examples of a Figurative Language. Write your answers at the back of the copies of the lyrics that I have provided to you. You will be given 2 points for every correct answer.

Questions: What do you think is importance of the use of Literal and Figurative Language? Are you also using Literal and Figurative Language in your daily activities? How are you using it in your daily life? Often, we use Literal and Figurative Language in making essays and poems which is also mostly used in composing songs or music just like what we have in our previous activity, aside from this where else can you use Literal and Figurative Language?
Assessment: Direction: Read and analyze the following sentences carefully. Write LL if the sentence uses Literal Language and FL if it is using Figurative Language. Do it on the answer sheets provided.
