Childhood
Born in Paris to Phillip I and Bertha of
Holland in 1081

The rise to king
Designated by his father as the rightful
successor 10 years before he died, his
seat on the throne was secured right?
His half-brother, kept Louis's from reaching
Rheims, so instead Louis VI was crowned
on August 3 in the cathedral of Orleans by
Daimbert, Archbishop of Sens. The
archbishop of Reims, Ralph challenged the
anointment but was ignored.

Before crowned he gained power
through military victories over the

After a dispute between the bishops,

Vassals. Louis sent an army to siege
the Vassal’s castle in the process he
took an arrow. He would survive his

Just before dying William X, Duke of
Aquitaine asked Louis to be his
daughter Eleanor of Aquitaine’s
guardian.
He also expressed his wish for Eleanor
to Marry Louis’s oldest son.
