Design Principles and Elements

Emphasis a text can be enlarged, be bold or italicized, darkened or lightened, or underlined.

Appropriateness A suitable or appropriate the text is for the target audience, intention or purpose, or event.

Proximity Things that are closely related should be brought together.

Alignment The text positioned in the page can be left, right, center or justified.

Organization Connected with the rest of the elements in the page.

Repeatition The unity of the entire design and consistency of elements are the concerns of repetition.

Contrast Contrast can be achieved when we combine the following elements like: large fonts with small fonts, serif and sans serif, thin and thick elements, and warm and cool colors.

Activity2: Design me As a senior high school student at Sogod National High School, your task is to create a poster that will convince elementary school graduates to enroll in our school. Your poster should include statistics that back up your reasons and persuasive texts that highlight these points. Use the elements to design your poster, and the available photo editor on your phone or laptop. Lastly, present your poster to the class.

CATEGORY 15 10 6 Content Content is highly relevant and accurate. Persuasive texts are compelling and clear. Content is relevant and mostly accurate, with minor errors. Presentation is not clear or persuasive, and lacks depth in explanation or response to questions.

Based on your experience in creating the poster, what general principles have you learned about effective visual communication and persuasion?

How would you apply these principles in different contexts outside of this activity?

1.)Analyze the impact of using a Serif typeface in a digital publication versus a Sans Serif typeface. How might the choice of typeface influence the reader’s perception and understanding of the content? A. Serif typefaces make the content look outdated and difficult to understand. B. Serif typefaces enhance readability, while Sans Serif typefaces make the content look modern and minimalist. C. The choice of typeface has no impact on the reader’s perception and understanding of the content. D. Sans Serif typefaces make the content look cluttered and confusing.

2.)Evaluate the use of Script typeface in formal events such as weddings or evening charity balls. Why might this typeface be chosen over others for these specific occasions? A.Script typeface is chosen because it conveys a sense of formality and elegance. B.Script typeface is chosen because it is easy to read. C. Script typeface is chosen because it is the most commonly used typeface. D. Script typeface is chosen because it is the least expensive option.

3.)Imagine you are designing a billboard for a new product. Would you choose a Slab Serif typeface or a Decorative typeface? Justify your choice considering the effectiveness of the billboard in attracting potential customers. A. I would choose a Slab Serif typeface because it is more traditional. B. I would choose a Decorative typeface because it is more eye-catching. C. I would choose a Slab Serif typeface because it is more modern. D. I would choose a Decorative typeface because it is less commonly used.

4.)Consider the design principle ‘Emphasis’. How might you apply this principle when designing a webpage to ensure important information stands out? A. By making all the text on the webpage bold. B. By making all the text on the webpage the same size and color. C. By using a variety of different typefaces on the webpage. D.By enlarging, bolding, or italicizing important text, or changing its color.

5.Reflect on the design principle ‘Repetition’. How does the consistent use of certain typefaces within a page contribute to the unity of the entire design? A. Repetition makes the design look cluttered and confusing. B. Repetition makes the design look inconsistent and disjointed. C. Repetition enhances the unity of the design and makes it look more professional. D. Repetition has no impact on the unity of the design.

ASSIGNMENT: MY IDEA. MY CREATION Using the design principles and elements you’ve learned, create a unique layout for your product or brand poster, ensuring to incorporate a variety of typefaces that best represent your concept

CRITERIA 20 15 10 Design Execution Exceptional use of design principles, resulting in a professional and compelling layout. Good use of design principles, but lacks some sophistication or innovation. asic or incorrect application of design principles, resulting in an ineffective layout. Typography Integration Typefaces are chosen and integrated flawlessly, enhancing the overall design and brand message. Adequate choice of typefaces, but they do not significantly elevate the design. Poor choice of typefaces, detracting from the design’s effectiveness. Conceptual Creativity The concept is highly original and creatively reflects the brand’s identity. The concept shows creativity but lacks uniqueness or strong brand representation. The concept is unoriginal or does not effectively represent the brand.
