Krikpatrick
Macmillan
invented the
bicycle in 1839.
He never
patented his
invention or
trying to make
any money out
of it.
He was born September 2,
1812, Keir, Scotland United
Kingdom
He did a variety of jobs as young man before
setting into working with his father in 1824. At
around that time he saw a hobbyhorse, and
decided to make one for himself. He realised
what a radical improvent it would be if he
could propel it without putting his feet on the
ground. He completed his new machine in
around 1839. This first pedal bicycle was
propelled by a horizontal movement of the
rider's feet on the pedals.
He rode 68 miles into Glasgow
in June 1842. The trip took
him two days.
He was the son of a
blacksmith.
He didn't study in any
school.
Thanks to the bicycle, we
can use another means of
transport apart from buses,
taxis, cars... and it's much
healthier and respectful
with the enviroment.
