1. Makato And The Cowrie Shell By Supanee Khanchanathiti Makato and the Cowrie Shell is a folktale from Thailand. It tells a story of a hardworking boy with a big dream. It also tells about the compassion of the King to its people.

2. Once upon a time there was a boy named Makato . He was an orphan, and had no friends or family to take care of him. Because he had to make his own living he did all kinds of odd jobs.

3. One day, after he worked in the fields he rested and one of his employer asked him.

4. Then Makato started his journey to the north-east then he meet a woman and adopt him.

5. When he met the king, Pra Ruang gave him a cowrie shell. He went to he market place and bought some lettuce seeds and then woman gave it to him for free.

6. Makato planted the seeds and after a month, the seeds grew and the biggest lettuce was given to the King by Makato . The King was amazed and Makato tells the whole story.

7. The king was so glad that he made Makato as his right hand. Makato grew up handsome and he married the Kingś daughter. He was later on appointed as the ruler of Mon.
