Making Predictions The intelligent guess about what can happen next in a story is called prediction.

Example: The sky grew dark, and the tree branches started swaying, so I knew soon _______________.

Using Correct Abbreviations The shortened versions of some commonly used words are called abbreviations. Some of the letters of the words are removed to make them short. Some commonly abbreviated words are titles given to people.
