The Department of English was established in 1970. The affiliation for Honours course, however, was granted in 1984. The Faculty includes 03 Permanent teachers (including the Principal) & 01 Guest Lecturer . Both Honours & General courses are offered at UG level. Presently we have 227 students in Honours and 42 students enrolled in General courses. Varied Electives offered for holistic educational development including Economics; History; Geography; Political Science; Philosophy; Education & Women’s Studies. The Story Begins… 2

Faculty – Progression Dr. Mandira Chakraborty was appointed Teacher-in-Charge in April 2016 and subsequently became Principal in November 2016. Anindya Sekhar Purakayasta left MWC in 2011 and subsequently joined Kazi Nazrul University as Assistant Professor. 10

The Department of English boasts of a milieu of students from varied socio-cultural backgrounds. Our department is proud of dynamic students celebrating differences despite Rural-Urban and Bengali-English backgrounds. Our endeavor has been to aid a seamless transition to students coming from Bengali medium schools and 1 st generation learners and to identify their potential for striving towards a better human being.
