Man-Made Hazards
Hazard A hazard is any agent that can cause harm or damage to humans, property, or the environment. Risk is defined as the probability that exposure to a hazard will lead to a negative consequence, or more simply, a hazard poses no risk if there is no exposure to that hazard.
Hazard Natural - Hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, floods, volcanoes, etc. Technological - Chemical releases, power outages , natural gas explosions, etc. Man-made - Terror attacks, race riots, mass shootings, etc .
Man-Made Hazard
Man-Made Hazard Man-made Hazard are the consequence of technological or human hazards, man- made disasters is a disaster resulting from human intent, negligence or error, Which cause is intentional or unintentional. It results in huge loss of life and property. It further affects a person's mental, physical and social well-being
Reasons for man-made Hazard There are multiple factor that may relate to manmade disasters Ignorance Unawareness Illiteracy Carelessly handling danger Chemical Weapons
Types of Man Made Disaster Nuclear Hazard Biological Hazard Chemical Hazard Fire accidents Travel accidents Terrorism Epidemic Etc .
Nuclear Hazard It is a type of explosion deriving its force from nuclear reactions of fission and fusion. When this occurs, it is often as a result of intent and the end results are even more catastrophic with a large percentage of those involved losing their lives . Example: Fission are atomic bombs , A-bombs , fission bombs . Example : Fusion bombs are hydrogen bombs , H-bombs , fusion bombs etc.
Nuclear Hazard
Top 10 Nuclear Plant Country
The Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Disaster, East Japan, Earthquake ( magnitude 9.0) occurred on March 11, 2011 at 2.46 pm.
Precautions from nuclear accident Common indicators of these disasters are vomiting , nausea , dizziness etc . Don’t look at fire as it causes instant blindness. Close all doors and windows as radioactivity doesn’t penetrate into solid structures. Cover all food and water and listen govt. orders
Biological Hazard They are referred as poor man’s nuclear bomb as they are easy to manufacture, transport and have the ability to kill hundreds and thousands of people. Origin or conveyed by biological vectors, including exposure to pathogenic micro-organisms, toxins and bioactive substances that may cause loss of life, injury, illness or other health impacts, property damage, loss of livelihoods . They are delivered using dusting airplanes or small perfumes atomizers. They have ability to generate immediate effects.
Types of Biological Hazard Malaria, Dengue fever. Meningitis, influenza. Pest infestations. Zoonoses - HIV, H5N1 virus (Bird flu), H1N1 (Swine Flu), the plague, Anthrax, Cholera, Leptospirosis . Medical wastes - Used needles, medication that has expired etc.
Health workers killed chickens in a Hong Kong market in 2014 in an effort to stop the spread of H7N9 flu. It's being watched closely as a virus that might spark a pandemic outbreak. Nipah death toll rises to 16, but end of outbreak might be near June 5, 2018, southern Indian state of Kerala.
Precaution The WHO should lay emphasis on prohibition against biological warfare We should immediately get away from an suspicious thing Cover your mouth with a wet cloth Listen to T.V. and Radio for further GOVT. instructions.
Chemical Hazard Disasters that are caused by the excessive use and misuse of chemicals in industries are called chemical disasters . The irresponsible handling of powerful chemicals can cause widespread devastation Â
On April 22, 1915, the world witnessed the first-ever deadly use of chemical weapons.
The Iraqi army destroys what it says is an IED planted by ISIS containing chlorine gas in March 2015. Syria chemical attack , 24 September 2013
Precaution Industries using harmful and powerful chemicals should be located far away from residential areas There should be surveys to keep a check on their activity The govt. should formulate an emergency plan to in case of an accident Pollution levels should be checked and maintained
Fire accidents Accidents that are caused due to fire are quite common . Fire results in heavy damage both in terms of life and property . Loss of life is high in a crowded building.
Fire accidents 1. The biggest main reason might be poor wiring and faulty electrical equipment, leaking gas or carelessly thrown cigarettes and matches. 2. Wires should be properly covered. 3. Inflammable things should be kept safely. 4. Power points should not be overloaded.
Types of Fire Accidents: Class A - fires involving solid materials such as wood, paper or textiles. Class B - fires involving flammable liquids such as petrol, diesel or oils. Class C - fires involving gases. Class D - fires involving metals. Class E - fires involving live electrical apparatus.
Brazil sends in army to fight Amazon fires, MODIS from August 15 to August 22, 2019 Location-Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Paraguay Total fires >40,000 Km
Notre-Dame de Paris fire. On 15 April 2019, just before 18:20 CEST, a structure fire broke out beneath the roof of Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral in Paris. The cathedral's altar, two pipe organs, and its three 13th-century rose windows, suffered little to no damage.
Travel Accidents Travel accidents are quite common. An accident which involves a no. of people becomes a disaster. Example: air crashes , train or vehicles collisions, capsizing of boats etc

Travel Accidents
Precautions All efforts should be made to carry victims to nearby hospital If possible, first aid can be given to victims It is the duty of people present there to get trapped people out If we smell fuel at accident site , warn people and don’t light fire
Terrorism This is another type of disaster that results in loss of life and property. Terrorists use violence and strike without warning. They use bombs , guns etc to terrorize people.
Precautions We must inform police if we come across any suspected group of people. We must stay away from any suspicious things and inform police about that. Do not accept packages from strangers Do not leave luggage unattended while travelling
Epidemic Rapid spread of infectious disease to a large number of people in a given population within a short period of time, usually two weeks or less.
Global measles cases spike 30 percent. 29.11.2018 A jump in measles cases is worrying health experts as outbreaks ravage countries and regions that had eliminated the deadly disease. Conflict, poverty and misinformation about vaccines .
