Basic concepts of supply planning… Supply planning is one of the three steps of quantification process in supply chain management. Prior to performing supply planning, preparation and forecasting phases have to be completed. Phase Activities Purpose Preparation Phase describing the program, defining the scope and purpose of quantification and collecting the required data. availing data to be used in forecasting and supply planning phase
Basic concepts of supply planning… Forecasting is the process of estimating the quantities of products that will actually be dispensed or used to meet the health needs of the targeted population during a specific future period of time. Phase Activities Purpose Forecasting Phase organizing and analyzing data, select forecasting method, building forecasting assumptions and calculating forecasted consumption of each product estimating the right quantity to keep sufficient inventory level that is adequate to satisfy customers’ demand
Basic concepts of supply planning… Supply planning involves determining the total product quantities and costs required to fill the supply pipeline to ensure optimal procurement and delivery schedules. taking into account forecasted consumption, minimum and maximum stock levels, order and shipping lead times, and desired arrival dates of shipments.

Demand and supply planning Demand planning deals with estimating demand at end user level supply planning is involved with managing inventory and monitoring the pipeline to meet the forecasted demand. Supply planning rely heavily on the demand forecasts that come from the demand planning process. The main difference between the two is their functions. Type of planning Function Demand planning forecasting future demand based on consumption, disease pattern or demographic data. Supply planning is to meet the demand plan as efficiently as possible through managing all aspects of inventory, production and logistics.
