“Abu Mansoor al Hallaj and his philosophy of Ana al Haq” Presented to: Miss Ammara Maqsood Qadri Presented By: Hafiza Hadeeqa Batool

Early Life Born in the southern Iranian community in the province of Fars around 858. Abu Al-Mughith Al-Husain ibn Mansur Al-Hallaj. Al-Hallaj’s grandfather may have been a Zoroastrian . He memorized the Q uran at the age of 11 in 869. W ould often retreat from worldly pursuits to join other mystics in study . Al-Hallaj would later marry and make a pilgrimage to Makah . Began to travel the world abroad, preaching, teaching and writing along the way about the way to an intimate relationship with God.

Status A Sufi poet, Teacher and Philosopher . A revolutionary writer and teacher of his time, when practices of mysticism were not meant to be shared publically . Yet he remains a Controversial figure , revered by Rumi, hated by many . Was labeled an intoxicated Sufi and is still read today .

Status His writings are very important not only to Sufis, but to all Muslims. His example is seen by some as one that should be emulated, especially his calm demeanor in the face of torture and his forgiving of his tormentors. Others continue to see him as a heretic (Unbeliever) .

Death Ana-al-Haq ’ (I am the truth ) Executed on the orders of an Abbasside caliph for uttering these words, taken to mean Hallaj as claiming himself to be God . After more than a decade of imprisonment, Hallaj was eventually executed publically in Baghdad in the year 922 .

Philosophy of Hallaj in his poetry I saw my Lord with the eye of the heart. I asked: Who art Thou? He answered: Thou.   You are He Who fills all place But place does not know where You are.   In my subsistence is my annihilation; In my annihilation, I remain You.   Concealment does not veil Him His pre-existence preceded time, His being preceded not-being, His eternity preceded limit.

Philosophy of Hallaj in his poetry I saw my Lord with the eye of the heart, and I said "Who are you?" and he said "Your Self." It is You that I see in everything; And I do not see You through anything (but You). Concealment does not veil Him His pre-existence preceded time, His being preceded not-being, His eternity preceded limit .

Philosophy of Hallaj in his poetry I am the One whom I love, and the One whom I love is myself. We are two souls incarnated in one body; if you see me, you see Him, if you see Him, you see us.(Diwan al-Hallaj, 93)

The most debatable topic for scholars and sufis

" al- Haqq " ("The Truth") is one of the most holy names and attributes of Allah (God), and by this statement his persecutors asserted that Al Hallaj was claiming to be God . Faith of solution in Allah ( aqeeda al halool ). Discussion about Hallaj’s saying Meaning of ana al haqq

Discussion about Hallaj’s saying کما قال اللہ تعالیٰ : ﴿ قل جاء الحق وزھق الباطل، إن الباطل کان زھوقا ﴾ 2. About ana al haqq And say, "Truth has come, and falsehood has departed. Indeed is falsehood, [by nature], ever bound to depart."

Rumi talks about al- Hallaj (Barks 2004 ) The Sunrise Ruby

In the early morning hour, just before dawn, lover and beloved wake and take a drink of water. She ask, "Do you love me or yourself more? Really, tell the absolute truth." Martyrdom of al- Hallaj and Unity of the Existence He says, "There’s nothing left of me. I’m like a ruby held up to the sunrise. Is it still a stone, or a world made of redness? It has no resistance to sunlight." This is how Hallaj said, I am God, and told the truth! The ruby and the sunrise are one. Be courageous and discipline yourself. Completely become hearing and ear, and wear this sun-ruby as an earring. Work. Keep digging your well. Don’t think about getting off from work. Water is there somewhere. Submit to a daily practice. Your loyalty to that is a ring on the door. Keep knocking, and the joy inside will eventually open a window and look out to see who’s there.
