placement that includes theoretical block,
partial block (Half clinical, half theory block)

•Availability of an advance plan before
implementation of curricular activities during
an academic year for the entireprogramme.
•All concerned are aware of the placementof
students in clinical fields.
•Coordination becomes more effective when
theory, practice correlates, & integrity exists.
•Helps the students & teachers to prepare
themselves for working in theareas.

•Any modifications are required based on
situations concerned, collaborations between
the faculty & service staff can be made for
smooth running of organizational activities, &
meeting the objectives of educational
programme.
•Assessment of the curricular programme is

curriculum plan/syllabus for the entire course/
program
•Plan in advance for all students in all years of

DEFINITION &MEANING
•In nursing education clinical rotation refers to
"regular, successive & recurrent posting of
various groups of nursing student belonging to
different classes in specific nursing fields i.e.
OPD's, speciality, wards,OT, delievery room,
clinics, community health fields-clinics, out
reach centers, subcenters, health centers,
schools etc.

FACTORSCONSIDERED
•The objectives of the course have to be clearly
stated.
•Number of students in each class.
•Number & size of dept. teaching units, or
wards where student should be given
opportunity for practicing clinical skills/
clinicalexperience.

FACTORSCONSIDERED
•The duration of clinical experience in each
area as per INC & university/Boardnorms.
•The number of teaching faculty available for
clinicalsupervision.
•Adhere to rotationplan.

BASICPRINCIPLES
•The clinical rotation plan must be in
accordance with the total curriculumplan.
•It has to be prepared inadvance.
•Theoritical instructions should precede as
closely as possible with clinicalexperinece.
•The teacher & student ratio will be 1:4 or as
prescribed byINC.

•Each student should get all the experience on

•All student should enter & leave the clinical
area at the same time & they should complete

•The teacher has to prepare objectives for
clincal experience.
•Based on objectives, clinical experience has to
be planned in advance to provide specific
planned learningexperiences.
•If necessary for some of the topics provide
spot clinical teaching & such topic has to be
repeated to each group of student as they
rotate.

•Planthecourseoutline&sothattheorycanbe
correlatedtopractice.
•Getpermissionfromclinicalauthority.
•Ensurethateachstudentisawareofthe
objectives&assignments&criteriafor
evaluation.

•Orient the student to the clinical area, ward
staff, etc. where they areposted.
•Participate in teaching, supervision, &
evaluation of students in theward.
•Arrange ward teaching, ward discussions &
case presentation.
•Help the students for effective charting of
records &reports.
